Prologue: No heavenly light
Stiles didn't know exactly when it all started - but he definitely knew when it ended.
It was the day he died.
Sudden, tragic, painful. In that enclosed, cold room Derek's body began to emit heat. Last breath of life, unbelievable blue eyes, and then-
Stiles could see the other side for just one second. One second that seemed like minutes. Hours passed, days, weeks...
When he woke up, Stiles was alone.
The floor - cold and hard, his clothes - gone, his body - numb. Longing for warmth, for a touch, yearning for conclusion.
Why couldn't he sleep forever? He was pulled out, forced back.
Stumbling across the room, someone else was walking with his legs. One step before the other his feet were leading him to the door. It was crimson red and something black was hanging from it's handle.
Before he touched it, even before he could smell it, he knew it was Derek's leather jacket. Nonetheless he did both, his hands reaching for it, touching, feeling the texture, lifting it up to his face, his nose buried in the dark leather, inhaling deep, taking in that all familiar scent.
Out of a habit, he put it on and felt better in an instant.
But there was one last thing to do - opening the door.
Afraid of what's behind, he wondered whether to do it, when this decision was taken from him and the handle was pushed down from the other side...
