The audience cheered. Not only cheered, they were ecstatic. They screamed and jumped and he could hear his name from thousands of people: “Shuusei! Shuusei! SHUUSEI!”
He bowed. “Wow. Thank you! Thank you all. I... don’t know what to say. Thank you for the warm welcome after all this time.” Yes, it had been more than two years since had last stood on such a large stage. And it felt... good! He smiled.

“There are people here...” Sairi continued, “who don’t know his face, yet, because they are new to our music, but those who know us longer than two years know he is a genius with the guitar! To those who don’t... you know him as well... at least the voice of his heart, for this is the man whose artistry keeps us alive. We sing his words and play his melodies.”

The audience cheered again. Shuusei had looked around and indeed found the person he was looking for. But his blond hair was easy to be spotted and Yuki had already told him where he had to look for his boyfriend. Hotsuma grinned at him; he could see it despite the distance.
This was not a normal concert. This was the Shadow Warriors’ End of Summer special concert. And they had advertised a big surprise. There had been speculations, even the correct one that Shuusei would join them again, but now that they really saw him, it just made every artist’s heart melt.

“Too much of the honour, Sairi,” he said. “We work on the music together...”

“But you have a very large influence on it. You can’t deny it. Now he will be with us for the whole second part of tonight’s show. And he will even sing TWO! songs.” Again everyone cheered.

“Stop your flattering or I’ll pass on the second one.” Shuusei scolded, of course not seriously. “Come on. We’re here to play and the guys down there didn’t pay to hear us talk but to listen to music.”

“Shuusei is right.” Ria grinned. “My bass is getting cold.”

Everyone laughed and they started the next song. They had done some rearrangements so that every song of this second part was for two guitars instead of one, since they didn’t want to force Yuki to step down just because his predecessor returned for an hour.

They played and as always it didn’t take long until Shuusei’s mind drifted off to a different realm where everything was filled with the music he and his friends were playing underlined by the audience’s euphoria. He had missed this intensity! When he played at Hotsuma’s restaurant it was there as well, but much weaker. There was a difference between playing for 20 people and for 20000.

He didn’t regret quitting playing here regularly, not at all. He loved his life as it was right now, but he missed moving so many people at once with just a bit of doing what he was good at: music. But after an hour it ended. It was only now that Shuusei felt how exhausting it was to be on stage, standing in the spotlights and playing his heart out. He was high on adrenaline when they left and went to their dressing rooms to change. Of course there would be an afterglow, no matter how famous they got, they didn’t want to lose contact with their fans. Shuusei had often skipped them. He still hated interacting with people and even today he hadn’t promised to be around. But now... just for today he decided he would bear it. And he knew his boyfriend would be waiting for them with fresh cookies he had made in the morning. Many cookies so that the fans would be able to try them as well.

So they went out to be greeted with more cheers. And a tall black dog who went straight to Shuusei to get a few pets. “Sodom. Who let you in?” Shuusei asked the animal Hotsuma had brought home one night last year. He was the reason they had to look for a new apartment because dogs this tall weren’t allowed where he lived.
“I asked Luka.” Hotsuma grinned. Luka, the tall man who now took care of the security wherever they performed and Yuki’s boyfriend. Officially.
And Shuusei was not the only one with a person close to him. Touko had also been found by her boyfriend and Ria... Shuusei had seen the girl she was talking to a few times, not only after their shows. And now they came over to them holding hands. “I... want to introduce someone to you...” the young woman said. “This is Hana. We’re dating.”
“Oh finally you tell us!” Sairi said. “I already wanted to ask how long you wanted to hide your girl.”
Not only the other band members cheered but also their fans. In contrast to what Takashiro had said their popularity hadn’t decreased since they were allowed to date and have relationships. The fans learned they were humans with human needs and the desire for love. Only Sairi and Tsukumo had not yet found anyone. Shuusei had thought Sairi would take the first girl who confessed her love to him, but to everyone’s surprise the group’s womanizer took his time. He was not only a womanizer but also a feminist after all who, when it came to relationships, wanted a partner and not just a woman who wanted to share his bed.
Shuusei grinned and leaned at Hotsuma, when everyone had introduced themselves to the newest member of their family. And then the evening continued. They talked to the fans and sang a few songs unplugged and all in all it was great, but very late when they returned to their hotel and Shuusei was glad when he crawled to bed with Hotsuma. “And? How did it feel to be back on the big stage?” Hotsuma asked.

“Great! But I still don’t want it again on a regular basis... just... a few times a year.”

“That’s good. I’m glad. And I will be there every time no matter where you play.”

Shuusei snickered and kissed his boyfriend before he curled up beside him and was quickly fast asleep.
