nyx-chan, die Panflam wollte und mich darauf gebracht hat, dass Frank total Photos von Pokémon verschickt. <3
“Hey, Mystic!” The Valor trainer hollered over the completely empty training field behind the PokéCenter and waved animatedly as if there was even a chance to overlook him and the large Charizard sitting behind him.
“Sableye!”
Hazel smiled down at her partner but lifted her hand in greeting. “Leo.”
For a guy who could wax poetic about the proper composition of burn heal, he seemed pretty hyper. Well, she had promised him a fire type sparring session, might as well put all that burn heal to good use.
“Glad you could make it! I’m like so stoked to see your Rapidash in action!”
Hazel tried to hide her smile. There was something oddly charming about that psyched up enthusiasm.
“I’ve never even seen a shiny Rapidash! Bluegrey flames sound badass. Also, how does that even work?! What kind of substance burns bluegrey?”
Or alarming. The enthusiasm might have actually been alarming. Which was only more reason to honour their agreement, Hazel figured and unclipped Arion’s pokéball from her belt. Before she had a chance to release it, though, the guy’s phone rang and he held up a hand.
“Sorry, just a sec!”
“Sableye?” Sableye scratched its head. “Sable?”
The Charizard lowered its massive head to Sableye’s level and blew a whiff of hot air in its face. “Char.”
Leo just nudged the large fire type with the tip of his boot. “Play nice, Festus,” he admonished without looking up from his phone. He typed a few words and then pushed the screen into Hazel’s face.
“Look at that!”
She literally had no other choice. From the phone screen, the face of an ape-like pokémon beamed at her. Positively beamed, upside down, from a handstand on a rock cliff. The text below the image just said Found your long-lost twin!.
“Cute?”
The Valor trainer shook his head vehemently. “This is an affront! An attack on my honour!” he declared but could not suppress a grin that was just as impish as the Chimchar’s.
“Cute,” Hazel repeated with a smirk and the guy stuck out his tongue at her.
“Sorry, but my teammate’s in Sinnoh on a research trip and he keeps sending me stupid photos. And… they kind of make my day." He looked sheepish for all but a second before reverting back to his hyper starting point. "So about that battle, Rapidash vs. Charizard?”
“Char.”
Hazel couldn’t help but smile as she lifted the pokéball, only to be interrupted by another chirping phone. Her own phone. “Excuse me?” she tried and Leo gave her the thumbs up.
With an amused chuckle, she opened the photo message from Frank, a Valor trainer she'd been friends with since the academy. The picture was a selfie with his Pachirisu's tail draped around his neck like a scarf. In the background she could make out a breathtaking mountain range. He'd been sending photos from his trip to Sinnoh continuously since she'd told him that she'd always wanted to go.
"Wait a second…" She showed her phone to Leo. "Know that guy?"
Leo raised an eyebrow. "Look at that dopey grin! ...How do you know Zhang?"
"We were in the same academy year. Have done a few research projects together”
"Fuck me, you're Hazel-Hazel!" Leo grinned like a madman. "Oh, this is perfect. Wait." He draped an arm around her shoulder and pulled her close. "Smile!"
He snapped the photo before Hazel had quite understood what he was doing. Grinning maniacally, he typed a caption before handing his phone to her. The photo had actually turned out quite nice: His grin was wide, hers slightly bewildered and the Charizard in the background rolled its eyes. And below that it said: We miss you too, big guy. <3
That sounded about right, Hazel thought and hit Send.
