“Are you surprised, Mr. Chekov?” McCoy asked, cleaning the sharp object in his hand with an already bloodied cloth. “What did you expect what would happen?”
Chekov whimpered when McCoy put the now shiny object down on the silver tray and took another one.
“You lay a hand on our Captain you’ll see the Doctor. Everyone knows that.” McCoy bend down to him and tipped against his forehead. “I thought you were a smart kid but that was not very clever of you.”
McCoy cut him from the temple down to the chin. Out of reflex Chekov closed his eyes, trying to protect them.
“Don’t worry, I won’t touch your eyes. I know how cruel this would be.” He tipped with the blunt side of the scalpel on his empty eye socket and showed a wicked smile. He could do a lot of damage to a body but he never touched the eyes, mostly because it reminded him of his own accident. And he didn’t like to be reminded of that.
There was a lot of other things that could cause the same or even worse pain. And that was all that McCoy wanted. “But maybe you’d wished in the end that I’d just taken your eyes out.”
“Just push me in one of the agony chambers,” Chekov whispered. “Please, just-”
“Oh, no, you don’t get so lucky. You tried to kill Kirk.”
Chekov struggled against his restraints. “It was a mistake. I shouldn’t have gone after the captain.”
“Right! You shouldn’t have!” The screams and pleas that followed the next few hours delighted McCoy in a way that nothing else could, not even the hot and sweaty body of his captain came close to it. But it was the best next thing so McCoy got his reward after presenting the captain the pinky finger of his assassin.
