[Background info] [contains spoilers] Shige's background is... largely a mystery, and not all too glamorous. He's the child of a rich merchant and his mistress. Shige's father didn't acknowledge him from the start; when his mother remarried, he ran away from his home in Kyoto, and went to Tokyo instead.
Shige plays soccer, and has ever since he was a child. In his first year in junior high, he quit Sakura Josui's team because it wasn't interesting enough, but he's rejoined the team now, and is one of its star players.
[Personality] Shige is a rather difficult one to pin. Overall, he's a pretty laid-back and relaxed guy, and sometimes acts as the comic relief. He jokes, he teases, and he gives people nicknames. [For example-- Mizuno Tatsuya, the ever-so-serious captain, is "Tatsu-bon," and Shou, the main character, is "pochi."] Behind his playful exterior, though, he's a pretty observant guy, both of the game and of his teammates. He's also very blunt; if he thinks one of his friends is being stupid, he will not hesitate to go right up to them and tell them off in public.
Something to be noted about Shige is that he's a bit of a delinquent, as well-- the first introduction of his character is when he jumps into a fight, and he's definitely not above cheating.
A big part of Shige's personality is that he can never really be serious about the game and he's kinna like Fuji Syuusuke like that *shot*. He likes playing soccer, but he's not insanely devoted to it. He quit the team in his first year because he found it boring and none of the players were good enough, and joined again in second year because Mizuno and Shou made it interesting for him. He's just that kind of guy.
Another major thing about Shige is that he's very evasive and secretive. Generally, he keeps stuff about him to himself. He doesn't like talking to people about his issues, and will often just dodge the subject entirely. As Mizuno put it, he's the type of person to not let anyone know he's in pain even if he's dying. Shige is very independent; he'll ditch school and travel around Japan to visit family just because he feels like it.
In short? Comical, laid-back, blunt, and more than he first appears.
[Abilities] As mentioned before, Shige is one of Sakura Josui's best soccer players; he plays as a forward, though he's known to be a decent goalkeeper as well. He's rather unpredictable on the field, and can be dangerous if you don't watch out for him [example-- going into a handstand to kick the ball away from the goal]. He's good at dodging people-- fitting for his personality.
[Other important facts] At the time I'm pulling him from, Shige's had his right shoulder injured, and so has his arm in a sling for the moment. It should also be noted that while he is technically a second year in junior high, he had to repeat a year, so he's actually the same age as the third years.
