Fandom love
Why I fell in love with the show and how I discovered the fandom - I do hope all the others post something on their days otherwise I will feel like a git :)
I first discovered BTVS when it was aired on BBC2 a good few years ago now - wait I think it was about ten! I’d seen the film and made a mental note to catch the first episode.
Not really expecting much I nearly missed the first episode but luckily I was channel surfing and from the first moment I was hooked! Supernatural beasties, strong female role model (I was studying Film at Uni so was in heaven!) and the yummy guy from the Gold Blend ad - I was shallow what can I say ^_^
Needless to say I watched each and every episode over and over - had a wee crush on Angel for a while, well you were supposed to have one on the main lead and obviously I hadn’t had the pleasure of seeing Spike appear on screen.
Initially I ventured onto the internet for spoilers for the upcoming episodes and it was by pure chance I spotted fanfic on BuffyGuide.com I’d never experienced anything like this before at all and it was a brave new world for me - from there on in I read everything I could find. At that point it was mainly Bangel fics until season two and then Spike appeared… and from there on the sky was the limit.
I was prodded into writing fics and it snowballed from there. It really is all about Spike for me I adore the character and he is so much fun to play with, though I have to admit to a huge weakness for Wes as well.
Along the way I have made some wonderful friends, ventured to several JM concerts, Words and Music was a wonderful experience, travelled to Atlanta for an utterly unmissable time at WriterCon and best of all I met so many people I only knew online. All of which are experiences I would never have had if not for Joss Whedon pitching the idea of a TV series based on a dodgy vampire flick that had not been a huge success at the box office!
Oh and I also learned that punctuation is essential *grins*
