Most of us haven't. But for some reason the Captain choose us. No one really seems willing to tell us why. Just that we're unable to leave and are going to a place called the 'Golden Shore.'

I wouldn't suggest trying to escape from the island. The wildlife doesn't allow it.

Hm.

Its a bit hard to explain. The Captain has the power not only to bring us here against our wills, but to bring people from multiple worlds into this one. It all sounds pretty science fictiony, but it appears to be true.
You'll find quite a number of crazy things like that here, or back on the ship at least.
