Okay, so it's been a while since we've done the last official post here. For the most part things have been running smoothly (if at times a bit sluggish on our part), but in the last weeks we sat down and made a few changes to the comm.
We abolished the Completed List
It's gone, gone, gone. With over 1000 claims (it still boggles my mind whenever I think about this!), the Completed List has simply become impossible to maintain. A lot of you've been wondering why we didn't update it anymore, but it simply got a) too much work, and b) way too long. We already had it split up into multiple posts because of LJ's entry size restrictions, and that would've only gotten worse the more claims you guys completed. So we decided to scrap the whole Completed List thing. (Personally, I am very relieved it's gone. It's been an insane amount of work.) Naturally, this brings with it a few changes for the comm. Entries can now be found via the
memories,
tags, or the
archive.
We introduced tags
From now on entries in this community will get tagged with two tags. One is for the category your claim was made in, the other for the rules set you've used. We encourage you to go and tag your entries, both old and new. We've made an effort to try and tag old ones, but there are a lot to tag, so it would really be easiest if you simply go and check if all your entries have been tagged. If you're bored, please also feel free to tag the entries of other people. Every bit helps. Just remember: 2 tags per post! one for the category, one for the rules set. Should be easy enough, right? :)
We'll continue to slowly make our way through the old entries, so hopefully someday all entries will be tagged. Whenever posts are approved from now on, we will automatically tag your entry. But it's a lot less for work for us, if you just tag them yourselves before you submit the post. To see a list of all available tags in this community,
see here.
This tag system will also enable you to keep track for example of mod posts in this community. This way you don't have to friend the community to be able and keep up with important news. Simply
go here and you can choose to be notified by LJ whenever an entry with a specific tag gets posted. To make it a bit easier, we've introduced a number of !mod post tags. The !mod post one is the all-inclusive one, whereas the others obviously only apply to some of the mod posts. This way you can choose whether you wanna get only the important news of changes in the community, get the word when we're looking for new mods, or hear about it whenever we post something here.
New post to collect your banners
Since the Completed List has been done away with, we have moved the banners
back to their old post. However, please keep in mind that from now on you only have to comment if you want a banner! If you've completed your claim and don't want a banner, there is nothing you have to do. We'll automatically tag your entry (if you haven't done so yourself already) and add it to the community's memories. You're free to do your next claim anytime. :)
We're looking for posts that aren't in the memories
Now that the memories are one of the main ways to find claims in the community, we are looking for posts that got overlooked when adding to the memories in the past. There are some 60-odd posts missing from the memories. If you find that your post isn't in the memories, randomly stumble upon an entry that's not in there, find a link to a post that's been deleted or spot any other mistake please let us know in a comment here. This way we'll hopefully have a way for you to browse through a complete and up-to-date list of all claims in this community soon.
But that's not all.
The memories for the Famous People category are split up
Since the completed list is gone, we thought it was time not only to update but also to reorganize the memories a bit. The Famous People category was getting ridiculously big, really messy and it took forever to load. So we went through and split up all the claims into their respective sub-categories. This meant we had to re-memorize over 500 claims. (Just to give you guys an idea of what an effort this was. Reorganizing LJ memories is not fun, let me tell ya.) So we really hope this will make the memories a lot easier to browse in the future.
zeehondpunk left the mod team
We're sad to see
zeehondpunk go, but unfortunately she's got important real life duties to fulfill (ewwwww ;)). We'd like to use this opportunity to thank her once again for her dedication to the community and her hard work. We really appreciated having you as part of our team.
Membership is now open to this community
We are not restricting membership to this community anymore.
If you want to join now, you join. You will only get posting access if you make a claim. Once your first claim was approved, you'll always have posting rights. So if you've done a claim in the past, you already have them as well. So basically there's nothing really changing for you. This is mainly done to hopefully confuse people less with the whole joining thing, while at the same time keeping OT posts to a minimum. You'll still need to join if you want to do a claim, but you don't have to do a claim anymore in order to be allowed to join this community. :)
In addition to all this, the userinfo and FAQ have been updated with minor changes, and the affiliates have been updated.
As always, if you have any suggestions, questions, spotted a mistake or would like to tell us your thoughts about the community (good and bad), please feel free to comment here. :)
Thanks for reading, keep making all these wonderful claims and get the word out about this community!
