One day of peace

Times like this I wish I was better at drawing or writing poetry, but I'm not so I'll try not to belabor the point.

We were taking a break from the never ending journey to the west. Even in my cynical opinion it was a beautiful place. High trees soared into a clear sunny sky. The grass was lush and green under us and the breeze held the faint fragrance of flowers. So what was my problem?

My problem was the noise coming from the lake set smack in the middle of this pleasant setting. My ever noisy companions were having their usual 'I don't give a damn about anyone' fun time in the water and I was by my self sitting on a jutting rock trying to relax. This of course was completely impossible with the three of them splashing around like a group of fish at spawning season. All I wanted was a little peace and quite, could I get that? No. I had to be surrounded by idiots who knew nothing about the term or need for quiet.

"Come on Sanzo. The water's great." Yelled Goku.  I shook my head no.

"The water really does feel quite nice sanzo you really should try it." Added Hakkai.

"Leave the princess alone. Maybe he's afraid to get his pretty hair wet." Gojyo taunted. I gave him the finger. He returned it and laughed heartily.

It was getting warm so I stripped off my robe to my waist and lit a cigarette.

"Sanzo you should get out of the sun, with your fair skin you'll burn easily."

"Yes mother." I mumbled to my self.

"What was that Sanzo?" damn his hearing.

"Yes, thank you Hakkai. I know that." I said through clenched teeth. He waved happily. I spotted a nicely secluded rock in the shade and strolled over to find a comfortable place.

Settling into the natural crevice of the rock provided a place to rest my back. It was a natural recliner and I was going to take full advantage of it. I relaxed my body and mind to slip into deep meditation.

With out realizing it I had fallen asleep. My companions were spread around the rock snacking and talking quietly.

"Oh I'm so sorry Sanzo did we wake you?"  Asked Hakkai politely.

I shook my head. "How long have I been asleep?"

"A couple a hours' Sanzo."  The monkey chimed in.

"Yeah long enough for Hakkai to decide to set up camp for the night."  Gojyo leaned in close. "We can have our own tent tonight if you want." He wiggles his eyebrows.

A quick slap of the fan ended his flirtation for now. Great another delay in the trip and this time I couldn't blame it on anyone but me.

After a surprisingly peaceful sleep we lingered a few last moments and took in the sights around the serene lake knowing full well that this was a rare day in our journey. One that we could actually enjoy.
