"This is really nice," Sango gasped, walking into the theater. She ran her hands over the velvety seats, admiring the soft material. She picked a chair and sat down in it, smiling at Inuyasha as he joined her. "I think this movie will be good."
"I do too," he agreed, scanning over the rest of the theater. They were the first ones there. "So... I saw on the news that a bunch of college students were striking their school because of unfair policies about curfews. That wasn't your university, was it?"
She shook her head and relaxed into her chair. "No, it wasn't at my school. My students are actually quite happy with their curfews. We are pretty flexible about it. I negotiated a time with the head of the student council, so now I'm known as everyone's favorite Dean."
Inuyasha gave her a skeptical look. "Really?"
"Really. Why wouldn't I be? Their curfew is later than every other college in the area. I'm thinking that I'm everyone's favorite."
He snickered. "I guess. So how's Hikari and Hei?"
She spoke as she tied her hair into a ponytail. "They're fine. Hei finally proposed to his girlfriend, so I have to help them plan the wedding. And Hikari's wife is still cheating on him, so he's about to surprise her with divorce papers. She doesn't think he knows about it. So we're going to dump her in the same bin as Hikari's father and your ex-wife; cheating bastards."
"Whoa. I'm glad you both are taking this so casually."
"What else can you do? No one can really spot a cheater just from looking at them. It's a trial and error kind of thing."
He couldn't argue with that. His divorce wasn't amiable for that very reason. "The only good thing that came out of our marriages are our kids. I love my daughter more than I ever loved my wife. Rumiko the best thing that ever happened to me."
"I hear that."
The roar of the music drowned out the rest of their conversation as the movie started. Pictures of dancing popcorn and hotdogs covered the screen, and clearly Sango was amused. Inuyasha just looked at her, wondering why dancing food entertained her so much. Obviously, she was able to enjoy herself no matter what she was doing. He couldn't say the same for himself, mostly because he found himself being nervous around her. He wanted to tell her how he truly felt, but he was afraid that he would scare her off. 'I think that we're moving too fast,' he was afraid she'd say. 'We hardly know each other and you already say that you love me? I think we should spend some time apart.'
He didn't want to spend time away from her. And at his age, he liked to think he cut through all the theatrics of dating. He knew what he wanted out of a woman, and Sango was it. A lovely companion that he liked spending time with. He greatly enjoyed the time they spent together, even over the phone. It approached the point of him anticipating picking up his phone every day after work and calling her. Her voice excites him, and he only wanted her to know it. But he knew he had to take things slow. It was the only way to let her know his feelings and not scare her away. One day at a time...
About halfway through the movie, his attention began to drift away from the screen and to Sango. She seemed to be enjoying herself, and the movie was quite comical. And while her attention wasn't directly on him, he decided to make a move. He wiggled his fingers to make sure they were still awake. They were, and he slowly slithered them over to Sango's hand. He interlaced his fingers with hers, and forced his eyes to stay on the screen, trying to be nonchalant about his action.
He could feel her look at him and down at their hands. She smiled as she saw right through his pretending, but didn't move her hand. Instead, she squeezed his and returned her eyes to the screen. He could hear her laugh to herself, but knew she wasn't laughing at the movie. On the screen was a funeral.
