Disclaimer: If I owned them there would be all sorts of crazy crossovers with the other beloved characters I'd own.
Notes: My other two fic are currently stalled, so here. Before bluflamingo I'd read a fic and move on with my life. Number five of her "5 people John Sheppard included in his will, and what he left to them" was so sad that I had to do something to remedy it. Totally un-betad so feel free to leave any and all comments and criticism in the comments section.

1. They’ve been on Earth a month or so. John’s not sure what Kate would say about his relationship with Mitchell (he’s finished his post-being-kicked-out-on-their-asses therapy sessions), but she would probably in her soppy, touchy-feely psychiatrist way be happy for him. She’d probably say it was good that he was moving on and forming personal relationships.

Sometimes he thinks that it may be more than just coping because there’s a little bit of guilt (residual comments made by his father, friends, fellow airmen; that he’s relatively safe when Teyla and Ronon are still fighting the Wraith; that he’s building a new life and is finding some happiness while Elizabeth folds in on herself and McKay’s stagnating) when he thinks about what he and Mitchell are doing, the moments that they’re stealing in between missions, but he’s thought of what it might be like to be stuck on Earth for the rest of his life, and once or twice, when he’s thought about where Mitchell might fit into that future, he’s been able to close his eyes for a few minutes and imagine a future that isn’t too bad.

2. Someday in the future, Atlantis is going to get its own F-302 wing (ok it’s not gonna happen, the SGC does not turn over advanced ship to ship fighters except grudgingly, but John figures he’s allowed to fantasize a little) and they’re going to need someone to lead the wing. Why not an experienced X-302 pilot, and maybe the SGC would even like someone around that they can trust, someone to temper John’s wildcard ways.

Teal’c would be off with the Jaffa, and Colonel Carter would be at SGRD, Dr. Jackson has already transferred permanently to Atlantis at this point so there’s nothing to hold Cam under the Mountain.

It’d be nice to have some more pilots around (he loves his Marines, but sometimes they’re a little too...oorah). And maybe he could fly them himself, pretend he needs the practice and a little extra help. He’s already got an instructor picked out.

3. John’s happy for Cam when he hears that he’d gotten command of Odyssey, even if it’s just for one trip (it was however a trip to another galaxy to deal the death blow to one of humanity’s most formidable enemies). Maybe that means that they might trust him with a ship again in the future.

The primary purpose of the Daedelus is running supplies and information back and forth between Pegasus and the Milky Way, but it also serves as military support for the expedition and he doubts anyone would call it boring. Maybe in a few years when Caldwell retires and the pin in Cam’s hip has slowed him down some, Cam’d consider the job. O’Neill probably still thinks he owes Cam a favor (John knows that, as far as Cam is concerned, all the chips are in the general’s hands) and for John and Cam it still wouldn’t be ideal, but it might almost be enough.

4. He’s not too thrilled with the choice of Woolsey for the mission. It’s dangerous out here in Pegasus, and from what he’s seen, Woolsey is definitely not the man to be given an under pressure situation, and especially not the power to make decisions in those sorts of situations. McKay tends to freak out to, but at least McKay comes up with results.

Maybe the IOA will realize that what Atlantis really needs is a leader who can work under pressure. Who can assess the military situation and come up with the right sort of solutions. Someone who everybody admires and trusts and can charm his way into the hearts of alien allies as easily as he can fire a P-90.

John’s not entirely sure how he’d ever feel about working for Cam (aside from the obvious fraternization violations), but as long as he’s dreaming he may as well hand wave all of that and just focus on how nice it would be to have him nearby regularly. To have regular meals together and maybe the occasional mission. To watch a marathon of month old football games together. To have all those handy excuses for meeting behind closed doors.

5. John would never bring it up, especially not while they’re both still young and have a lot of work to do in their respective galaxies, but he imagines that someday in the future, Cameron might want to retire to Atlantis (he occasionally feels guilty that Cameron isn’t enough for him to go back to Earth, but Atlantis...).

It’d be dangerous and far from Cam’s family, but John would be willing to make it worth it for him. The beaches on their new planet are nice and the snake-things mostly confine themselves deep inland. And if Cam doesn’t like their current planet, John could probably find a better one for them to move to (he probably wouldn’t even have to look very hard to find a crisis necessitating the move).

Maybe by that point the military would have revised the uniform code and they could share quarters instead of neighboring suites with a shared balcony. Children are definitely out of the question for them. There are a lot of things that John knows he'll never be brave enough to talk to Cam about, and kids are at the top of that list.

(John’s given up on children in general, although the more he sees everyone else, Teyla, his brother, the sadder it is, but John’s happy with the family he’s been building for himself here on Atlantis and he’d love to make Cam a permanent part of it.)
