Atonement.

Yom Kippur starts in about half an hour. I'm fasting this year, like I usually do, and for a refreshing change I'm also kinda thinking about the meaning of all of it.

The way it works is that a day is spent in synagogue asking forgiveness from God for all your sins against him through the year. The evening before (Erev Yom Kippur), you have to ask forgiveness for your sins against man. I kinda love that idea - that before you can ask forgiveness for sins against God, you have to ask forgiveness for sins agains man.

I'm still not sure where I sit on the whole does God exist thing, leaning toward probably not... but still... I think it'll be good for me to spend a day thinking about where my life is, what kind of person I am, and what kind of person I want to be. I'm excused from classes anyway, I may as well do something productive with it...
