Title: The Teachers
Author: Dee
Rating: FRC
Fandom: CSI:NY
Theme set/prompt: High School - Prompt 1: Teachers
Summary: Meet the teachers of Saint Dymphna
~*~
Saint Dymphna was a fairly quiet school, granted the athletics drew hundreds of people to each game no matter the sport, but the teachers always had control of the students. And no student, not even the most rowdy, dared test the teachers’ threats.
Mac Taylor was the math teacher. He had been teaching at St Dymphna for the past ten years and secretly loved his job, though on the outside he kept his demeanor calm and slightly agitated. It wouldn’t do him any good to let his student’s know how much he loved coming to work each day.
Jane Parsons’ classroom was next door to Mr. Taylor’s and she was the most feared Literature and Grammar teacher in the school. Most students whispered she was secretly related to Satan, because of her fondness of weekly one thousand word essays and verbal presentations. Jane knew what they said about her, but she did not care. She knew that each one of her students became better at punctuality and improved their work ethic because of her class.
Dr. Leonard Giles was across the hall from Ms. Parsons’. Most students loved his class, mainly for his enthusiasm regarding World History. Dr. Giles believed that a good visual, be it a drawing, movie, sculpture, or authentic wardrobe, helped aide a student’s learning. Especially when discussing events that occurred hundreds of years before their birth.
Next to Dr. Giles was Stella Bonasera, the resident Science teacher. She was always taking the class on field trips and showing them different experiments. She pushed her class to think and try to find new ways to use science. She could usually be found with the Anatomy teacher and sporting a Periodic table t-shirt.
Down the hall was the most feared teacher in all the school. Not because of his subject, Anatomy, or his teaching abilities; he was feared for one sole reason, his love of dissections. Dr. Sid Hammerback enjoyed nothing more than having his classes cut open an animal and learn about the internal structure and positioning of the organs.
Evan Zao was the most loved teacher. His geography class was extremely easy and as the sole sports coach of the school, if you were a jock, you automatically did well in his class. Evan enjoyed teaching, but his true love was with coaching. He only taught because he had to.
The teachers at Saint Dymphna were varied but they all loved one thing. The students.

Summary: The most popular kid is…
~*~
Danny pulled his baseball cap down low and walked through the school’s front door. He loved the first day of school. It was a chance for him to reconnect with his friends and make new ones. Walking down the hallway, he waved at everyone he passed. Some he spoke a few words too, others he clasped their shoulders in greeting, but most he passed by with a wave.
Checking his schedule one last time he made his way to his first class, stopping just outside the door and leaning against the wall. Soon he was surrounded by other students, most just looking for a chance to tell their friends they spoke with the most popular kid in the school. He didn’t care. He didn’t have time to care what most of them thought.
“Danny, my man, how was your summer?” His best friend asked as he forced people out of his way and stopped next to him.
“Good, it was real good. Did you have fun in Russia?”
“You bet. The hockey there is fuckin outstanding.”
Before Danny could respond the bell rang, signaling the start of the new year. Danny smiled at Don and followed his friend into Mr. Zao’s classroom. This was going to be an excellent year.

Title: Why Me?

Theme set/prompt: High School/ 06 - Loner
Summary: Before class, he remembers why he hates school.
~*~
Adam Ross kept his head down and blended into the crowd as he made his way towards his second class. He silently hoped he wouldn’t have any classes with the “in-crowd”. Adam despised school and everyone in it, especially the popular kids.
Darting out of the way he missed being spotted by Danny Messer, the one guy that ranked high on the list of why Adam hated school. It wasn’t that Danny had ever done anything to Adam but Danny had everything Adam wanted; friends, popularity, athletic ability, all the girls crawling at his feet and he got straight A’s. Without even trying.
He knew that this was his last year and once it was over, he would never have to see Danny, or any of his friends, again. Walking into Mr. Taylor’s class, Adam groaned in frustration. Not only did he have Danny, the most popular guy, but also Don, the school’s resident future NHL hall-of-fame’er and most likely to be voted best looking, sitting there and both were currently looking at him.
“Oh lookie who’s here, it’s Adam. Your sister’s not here to protect you this year, little Adam. Who ya gonna cry to now?” Chad commented as Adam slid into a chair.
“Shut it,” Danny growled while throwing a paper ball at Chad’s head.
“Oh come on, we’re just havin a bit of fun,” Chad replied but refused to throw the paper back.
“I don’t care. You’re just pissed off that Adam’s a better guy than ya. Leave him the fuck alone, or you’ll be cryin to ya own sister,” Don bit back.
Adam slouched farther down in his desk and once again wished for the ability to disappear. Chad of all people had to be in this class with him. The one guy that saw him crying to his sister when his dog died and had never let him live that fact down.
“Oh look, the hockey loser’s got enough brains to speak,” Chad laughed. “And look! He’s even got teeth.”
Don narrowed his eyes, “Chad, ya might wanna shut up. I’d hate to explain to ya sister why your face is busted up.”
“My sister? You’d be explainin it to Danny’s mother; but don’t call tonight. I’ll be fuckin her then.”
Adam watched as Danny stood and punched Chad, sending the other man crashing to the ground, desks and books falling beside him. “You leave my ma outta this.”
Adam lowered his head in his hands and watched from the corner of his eye as Don walked up next to Danny. Both men were staring down at Chad as the final bell rang. Desks were quickly straightened and books were handed back to their owners as Mr. Taylor walked into the room.
“Gentlemen, is there a problem?” Mr. Taylor asked as he eyed Chad’s face.
“No.” The three boys said in unison. Adam slouched lower in his chair. God how he hated school.

Summary: Guess who’s coming to the play? Everyone…
~*~
Zack Shannon was the man. At least that’s what the poster said. He studied it one last time before walking away and shaking his head. He wasn’t the “man”. He was a drama student. He could only be as good as those on stage with him.
“Zack, what up? I saw the poster. Are you really doing an updated version of Romeo and Juliet?” Danny asked as he approached him.
“Yeah, Ms. Moody thinks it’ll be great.”
“Well then, Romeo, I be sure to make it.” Danny grinned and walked away.
His heart started beating rapidly as sweat broke out all over his body. Zack was suddenly very nervous. When a guy like Danny mentioned he was gonna come to something, it meant the rest of the school would show up too.
Just fucking perfect, Zack thought, but I can do this; I have too. He walked to the courtyard and sat down next to a tree. Leaning back, he opened his script and began reviewing his lines. He was the man…and there was no way he was going to screw this opportunity up.

~*~
“Hi Danny. Hi’ya Don. Are the two of you coming to the Fall Bazaar this year? We would really like it if the two of you came to the dance,” Lindsay said as she snapped her gum.
Don rolled his eyes and nudged Danny’s shoulder as Danny asked, “Is it a Halloween dance?”
“Costume’s are totally optional. You can dress up if you wanna, but why would the two of you want to hide those handsome faces?”
“So then if it’s a costume party, you don’t have to dress up. I’m sure you’ll win first place just goin like that.” Don remarked.
Danny laughed, “So true.” As Lindsay stuttered, Danny and Don walked away. “Are ya goin?”
“Might. You?”
“We should dress up.”
“What as?” Don asked as he opened the door and followed Danny to the baseball field.
“Beats the hell outta me but it needs to be legendary, man. This is it, who knows where we’ll all be next year.”
“Friends.”
Danny laughed and playfully swatted the back of Don’s head. “Other than that. You gonna take anyone?”
“Hell no. You?”
“Fuck that. I don’t need some silly girl drooling all over me for a couple of hours.” Both boys laughed as they started to plot their costumes.

Summary: Don has a crush. (WARNING! Contains m/m kissing)
~*~
Don had a crush. Well, one could call it a crush but Don knew he was in love. Normally this would be wonderful, fantastic even. The only problem: Don was in love with his best friend. He was in love with Danny.
He slammed his gym locker closed and surveyed the empty room. Most of his teammates had already left for the night, going out to celebrate their win; but Don was still there, convincing himself that Danny wasn’t interested in him.
“What are you doin?” A voice asked from behind him. “I thought you woulda been out celebratin with everyone else.”
Don jumped and turned, almost tripping over the bench in the middle of the row. “Damn it, Danny. You scared the shit outta me.”
“Sorry.”
“You’re not.”
“What’cha still doin here?”
“Thinkin.”
“Funny. Bout what?”
“Nothin really. Just stuff.” Don watched as the other boy walked closer to him and backed him against the lockers.
“What kind of stuff?” Danny asked his face inches from Don’s.
“Ya know the usual. How shitty of a game I played. Who I’m gonna ask to the prom. Where I’m gonna go to college. Why I’m in love with you. That mad calculus test Mr. Taylor is gonna give us tomorrow. How pissed Coach Zao is gonna be when he finds out I broke my last hockey stick.” Don replied in a rush of words.
“You what?” Danny asked leaning closer to Don and making the taller man slouch against the cold, hard metal of the lockers.
“I broke my last stick tonight in the game. I’m gonna have to convince my dad to loan me some money to buy a new one before practice tomorrow.”
“Wrong question. Who are ya in love with?” Danny asked. Don watched in horror as Danny leaned forward and smiled.
“You.” He whispered and closed his eyes. He didn’t want to see the hatred on his best friends face now that he admitted he was gay.
“Interestin,” He heard Danny reply before the room was reduced to silence. The few seconds that passed felt like an eternity before Don felt a pair of lips press against his. Opening his eyes, he saw that Danny was kissing him. Smiling, he closed his eyes and let himself be kissed. “Same here,” Danny stated as he pulled back and rested his head against Don’s. “I was just too fuckin chicken to say anythin. I didn’t know ya felt the same way.”
“Are you sure it’s not just a crush?” Don asked as Danny’s arms snaked around his body.
“Fuck yeah I’m sure,” Danny replied before pressing a chaste kiss against his lips. “We’ll just have ta figure the resta this out later. Right now we gotta win to celebrate.”
Don laughed and let himself be led out of the school.

Sheldon tucked his books father under his arm and pushed his glasses up farther on his face.
“Sheldon,” Ms Parsons stopped him as he started to walk out of her class. “You are doing a fantastic job this year. Would you be willing to help Peyton with tutoring some of the other students?”
Sheldon nodded and smiled, “Of course, Ms Parsons. I would be honored. Are we continuing the discussion of Beowulf tomorrow? I really want to hear more about Breca and Beowulf’s friendship. It really is quite fascinating how Breca beat Beowulf in a swimming match, don’t you think?”
Ms Parsons nodded, “Of course we will and I imagine your verbal presentation will be excellent as usual. Thank you Sheldon. Enjoy your next class.”
He nodded and met up with Peyton in the hallway. “I was wondering where you were at.” She remarked.
“Ms Parsons asked me to help you tutor. I can’t wait. It sounds so exciting.” Sheldon replied as he grinned broadly. “I wonder who we’ll have to tutor.”
“Probably the jocks.”
Sheldon groaned, “Probably. I really don’t like them.”

Danny, Don and Marty sat around the table and waited for the ceremony to start.
“What in the hell is Coach Zao doin?” Danny grumbled as he tore his napkin into smaller pieces. “Don’t he know we’ve got shit ta do?”
“Danny ya know this usually takes him forever.” Marty replied as he shifted in his chair.
“Not this long. How long can it take to get about of certificates together and congratulate us on another fine sports season?”
“Ya know you’re gonna get the top award from the state for your pitchin, don’t ya?” Don asked.
“Of course. Who else are they gonna give it to?”
“And you’ll get boasted on, Mr. All State Quarterback.” Don said as he tossed his napkin at Marty.
“Nothing will beat your honors, Mr. All American Hockey Player.” Danny replied tossing the confetti that used to be his napkin at Don.
“Shit, I’m only the Center. It takes a lot of other guys to make me look that good on the ice.”
“Bullshit,” Marty replied with a fake cough.
The three men laughed as Coach Zao finally entered the cafeteria.

Title: The Fight
Author: Dee
Rating: FRT-13 (Fighting)
Fandom: CSI:NY
Theme set/prompt: High School/ 9 - Honors
Summary: Who is going to be Valedictorian?
.
~*~
It started with Aiden pushing Peyton out of the way to turn in the math test first. Soon Peyton was reading verbal essays in English about the heroic, yet tragic, death of Aiden. Ms Parsons was appalled as Peyton described in perfect detail how young Aiden was killed before her time and the town threw a parade in her honor.
Aiden responded by drawing an anatomically correct rendering of Peyton being decapitated and her body hung from a tree. Both girls thought the drawing was quite good and Peyton laughed the hardest when she noticed her drawing had an English book clutched in one hand. Mr. Campbell did not find this amusing.
Peyton got her revenge in Drama when she wrote a two person sketch based off of Julius Caesar and plunged a fake sword into Aiden’s stomach. The hidden blood packet exploded and covered both girls in the sticky red syrup. Ms Moody was not amused as the class erupted in cheers and applause, the girls bowing as they laughed.
Aiden waited until Chemistry to return the favor. Ms Bonasera was giving a pop quiz for extra credit, and the first student to turn it in received an additional five bonus points. As Peyton walked by, Aiden tripped her and managed to turn her test in first. The girls laughed as Ms Bonasera frowned and was quickly added to the list of teachers not impressed with their behavior.
As graduation approached, the two girls calmed down a bit. They were tied for top honors of the school and both focused all of their time to studying; until the day of graduation rehearsal.
Peyton gave Aiden her brightest smile as she pulled out the rubber stake.
“I am Valedictorian. You will succumb to me,” She yelled out as she raced towards Aiden. Aiden, not missing a beat, jumped out of the way and pulled out her own rubber stake.
“You are not, I am. You will succumb to me.”
The rest of their graduating class erupted with laughter as the two girls circled each other and tried to avoid the rubber stakes.
“Peyton. Aiden. Stop right now and sit down,” Mr. Taylor commanded. The two girls stopped suddenly and sat down where they stood; Aiden in a chair and Peyton on Danny’s lap. At Mr. Taylor’s glare Peyton slid off of his lap and landed in the chair next to Danny, while he tried to contain his laughter.
“What are you two trying to prove?” Ms Parsons asked. They shrugged and both soon had identical smiles on their faces.
“Nothing ma’am,” Peyton said.
“We were only trying to have a bit of fun before school ended,” Aiden continued.
“Are the two of you really friends?” Ms Bonasera asked.
“Best friends,” Peyton replied and Aiden nodded in agreement.
The three teachers sighed in defeat and Mr. Taylor handed both girls a length of cloth. “Congratulations. You both finished at the head of your class, tied for valedictorian.”
They reached out with shaky hands and took the sashes from Mr. Taylor.
“Really?” Peyton asked in disbelief.
“Holy-“ Aiden started, then stopped with a bright smile. “Thank you.”
“Just keep the speeches clean, please. And no more fighting. Even if it is not real,” Mr. Taylor scolded. The two girls smiled innocently and nodded.

Summary: Meet the students - after graduation
~*~
Saint Dymphna’s senior class stood on the front grounds. There were tears, laughing and lots of chatting amongst them. They were all relieved to have finally completed their last year of high school.
Sheldon, Peyton and Aiden were all heading off with their full scholarships in academics to two of the top colleges, Peyton and Aiden going to the same school.
Danny, Don and Marty were preparing to go to the same college with full scholarships in athletics. Danny and Don had already bought an apartment near the campus and were planning on consummating their relationship that night.
Zack was busy making a mental check list of everything he would need when he started the performing arts school that summer. He knew that if he studied hard, and worked even harder, he would be headlining on Broadway soon enough.
Adam walked past the crowd and made his way to his car. He had no plans to continue his education, he spent enough time in hell and he didn’t want to return. He was just happy to have graduated.
Chad walked past Adam with a friendly nod in greeting. He secretly felt miserable at how he treated the other man for the past four years, but he knew that now was not the time to apologize for his mistakes. He would meet up with Adam in the future, when the wounds weren’t so new, and make amends then.
The students were all different in many ways, yet there was one thing they would always have in common. They all graduated from Saint Dymphna. The only school named for the Patron Saint of Mental Health.
