Veronica hated the rain.
She had hated it for a long time now, possibly more than she should’ve but everything bad in her life could be linked to the weather phenomenon.
Cassidy raped her, and she remembers the flashes of memory punctuated by the rap of rain on the glass doorway leading into the room.
Logan broke up with her on a rainy day claiming she still yearned for something better, something that might not be epic but instead would be comfortable and safe.
Her father lost the election on a rainy day as well.
Rainy days, they all compiled to mark the worst days of her life.
Sitting on the beach, the rain pouring down around her, hair slick and clinging to her cheeks she bowed her head and allowed it to cleanse her for once, to rid herself of the horrible feelings which coursed through her.
“What do we have here?” a familiar voice, both cocky and mocking and filled with warmth all at once, asked her.
“Hi Weevil,” she murmured without even turning around to face the ex-gang leader.
Weevil hunkered down next to her, nearly having to fold his short but muscular form in order to do so, perching next to her on the blanket. “Why’re you sitting out in the rain?” he questioned.
“I felt like it,” Veronica replied easily, surprised at how little she felt the need to be defensive around him.
Maybe it had to do with the fact that he never questioned her at every turn, every minute and understood her motives for doing certain things more than anyone seemed to.
Nodding Weevil was quiet for a little while, and she could feel his eyes on her. Dark and ever watchful as they were, until finally he spoke, “Do you want to go get some pizza or something?”
Veronica couldn’t help the smile that spread across her face as she nodded in reply to his question.
“Your place?” she stood up, dusting what little wet sand clung to her jeans.
“Why not,” Weevil responded, helping her pick up the blanket off the ground and shake it out, his hand seeking out hers after a moment he squeezed it and then released it, shooting her a small almost shy smile.
Stunned Veronica looked at him, her breath hitching in her throat as she realized that something was shifting, something was changing.
“Are you going soft on me now Weevil?” she arched an eyebrow, a small smile playing on her lips.
Maybe rainy days weren’t so bad Veronica thought to herself a moment later when her and Weevil shared their first kiss in the rain.
Weevil’s lips were dry and warm despite the raindrops falling heavily around him and his grip on her waist was reassuring and she found herself searching out his lips again when he pulled away.
“So…” Weevil’s voice was low and he smiled at her, “Wanna get out of the rain?” he asked her, arching an eyebrow.
Veronica shook her head, “No. I’m enjoying it.” She pulled him back down into a kiss, her tongue seeking out his as warmth flooded her.
She loved the rain.
