I was in the middle of moving from one apartment to another when I found an "attempted delivery" note from FedEx on my door.
Since I was expecting a package from my publisher, I called up FedEx, and they told me: 1) The number on the door tag didn't match my address; 2) They couldn't possibly have put the wrong door tag on the door because it was all computerized; 3) It was probably some people trying to prank me.
So I waited about two and a half weeks to see if they would get my address change, or if my former landlord would contact me, and eventually I e-mailed my editor and we got things sorted out.
Then I went to a library committee meeting, and FedEx attempted to deliver my package while I was out. "Last attempt" was marked on the door tag. So I called FedEx and I checked on my package and they said it was at their facility in Maspeth, and I should call again the day I came to pick it up, just to confirm. The next day, I called to confirm, and then I went to Maspeth. It's a subway, and then a bus, and then about a half-mile walk around a really depressing industrial park. In the rain.
Then I got to FedEx, and I showed them my door tag. And there was a lot of waiting, and a lot of phone calls.
They told me they didn't have it. They told me they didn't know where it was. They told me it was on a truck. They told me it was going to my old address. They told me it was going to my new address.
At some point there was crying.
I'd been there for about an hour when they told me that they'd found it.
And I came out of there with a box of 25 ARCs of my very own book.
...Which I then had to carry home in the rain. And took to McDonald's, because I was desperately hungry.
That was a lot of down and a lot of up for one day.
Hi Emily! *waves* Soooo excited for A Love Story! Aww you must have been really mad at those FedEx people! I am glad that that box of lovely ARCs didn't get lost after all. =D
