I took at break in Chapter Four at 18,620 to write out all the remaining book in short blurbs. Aside from my rough-n-tumble outline, I organized the rest of the plot into some new configuration to see what I've got on the page.
Right now, the categories are:
Objective - what is the purpose of this next scene
Obstacle - what gets in the way of achieving the objective
Solved By __ - how this obstacle is surmounted
Result - what is the new scene now as a result of this new action/information
End Question - what are we left wondering that will be answered more in the next scene?
I want to add something about identifying the tension or the element of tension (i.e. what exists between the objective and the obstacle) but I haven't quite figured out how to phrase this.
Any suggestions? What do YOU do to organize your work?
(This is the first time I am doing this outright instead of writing the whole thing and looking back, so I'm as curious as the next person as to whether this sort of thing works/is helpful or steals all my energy/momentum.)
