Oh, he was going to the Special Hell alright. But it was gonna be worth it just to see the look on the Preacher's face.

"Captain."

It wouldn't be so bad if he could stop laughing. The stitch in his side was beginning to hurt something awful. "Shepherd. How's things?"

"Captain, really. You've got to do something."

"Not much I can do, Shepherd."

"Can't, or won't?"

Oh, this was just too much fun. He choked back another laugh, "Might be a little bit of both."

"But, Captain, this can't be allowed to go on. It's…unnatural."

"Shepherd," Mal feigned indignation, "need I remind you of your own good book? Judge not, lest ye be judged." Yep, that look right there was the icing on the cake.

"Surely you see the ridiculousness of the situ-," Book began, but was interrupted by someone joining them in the common area.

Mal leaned toward Book and whispered, "You want him to stop, you tell him. But keep in mind that he's been consultin' with Kaylee." With that, he wandered to the stove to watch the festivities over a cup of coffee.

"Hey, Preacher, been lookin' for you."

"Jayne."

"Thought we'd try some braidin' tonight. What d'ya think, cornrows or pigtails?"

"Son, we need to talk."

"Fine by me, but best make it quick. Kaylee's on her way down here and one of you is gettin' pigtails.

Mal wasn't surprised the Shepherd went for the cornrows.
