[series]: D.Gray-Man
[character]: Miranda Lott
[character history / background]: Wiki says it, but since I’m always anal about this, here comes ♪♫ The Cella Version ♫♪:

A German woman of twenty-six, Miranda stands meek, slender and shy. Not much is known about her family, though it is implied that they were not very lucky, or loving of her. Ever since she was a child, Miranda was shunned as a dark, ugly girl, growing up alone and without any friends. Her lack of luck had transferred to her inability to get a decent job, which lead her to getting fired from no less than 100 jobs, every time thanks to her ability to spazz, and be a real klutz. This also helped her chronic depression grow. On the day Miranda lost her 100th job, she found an old abandoned clock in a shop. It was love at first sight. The clock would understand her. She bought it, and cleaned it every day. In exchange, the clock repaid her by freezing time. The same day was repeated over, and over, and over, and over again. Miranda lived in a constant repetition for 30 days, until Lenalee and Allen were sent to her town to investigate what was wrong. An incident with Road Camelot, another failed job, and a battle later, Miranda found herself the owner of Innocence.

With the help of Allen and Lenalee, she became determined to be a useful Exorcist. She was sent to the Black Order, where she received her training. Some time later, a different Miranda joined Allen's crew on the ship to Edo. Slightly lighter, slightly more beautiful, slightly less pale, but still a spazz (because jumping into the water to drown herself because she thought no-one had liked the way she had repaired the ship in? Spazz.). Miranda’s abilities are crucial in the fight against Akuma, as she’s proven time and time again.

[character abilities]: Lost in Wikilation, and then ♪♫The Cella Version♫♪:
Her weapon: is located on her right arm, a disk called "Time Record", the remainder of her clock. When the Innocence is deactivated, an ugly scar runs down her arm. Her power is "Recovery", setting up a timezone where anything on it will recover and heal automatically. the power is temporary, though, and as soon as Miranda stops it, all damage suffered will returned, complete with the damage suffered while she used the Innocence. In order to keep her Innocence going, Miranda can't sleep, and has thus become an insomniac. Her power can't bring the dead back to life, nor does it have enough power to stop the download of the ark. it can be used as a defensive technique "Time Out" which creates a space where the time stops, negating any attack that comes into that. She's the only Exorcist that controls a non-offensive anti-Akuma weapon.

Added abilities? A talent of failing at life. 
[character personality]: Miranda is shy, dubitative, and has the lowest self-esteem EVER. She stammers a lot, and she apologizes even more, and she's always got a talent of messing things up. She's clumsy, but has a big heart, as proven by her insistence to keep her Innocence working even when she can go on no longer, because she doesn't want people to die because of her. In her eyes, she could've always done better. Nothing she does is ever enough. But Miranda will try, even if it's hard, and the road is bumpy. Allen showed her that trying is the best thing to do. She's very caring, and it can be assumed that she loves the people she works with--basically because they do not shun her, but accept her with open arms.

Even though she’s grown a lot as a person while helping the Black Order, it’s still pretty much obvious that she can still be very innocent and as much of a klutz as before; in a nutshell: she has the same personality and the same fears, but now she has the added bonus of friends and people to fight for, which maybe with time, and patience will help her grow a backbone. Or a hundred.

[third person / log sample]:

For as long as she can remember, she never helped anyone out. Of course it had been her intention to try, because Miranda had a big heart, but an even bigger clumsiness that prevented her from ever succeeding. She offered to help an old lady cross the street once-the old lady smelled like freshly baked bread and warm blankets, and reminded Miranda of her grandmother-but as soon as they’d stepped on the street, a speeding carriage almost ran them over. No matter how much she’d apologized, the old lady could only pull her arm out of Miranda’s grasp, frown sternly and leave her kneeling on the street.

She had tried to help the nuns clean the monastery, back in the days when she’d honestly considered that maybe becoming a nun was the only option left for her. Nobody loved a clumsy, dark and ugly woman, except God. So she had heard from the nuns themselves, but when it came down to it, when Miranda had tried to clean the dust off the bell in the tower and ended up making it crash through the floor, she learned a new lesson: God may love ugly, clumsy, dark and useless women, but people did not, and for now, she was still in the people’s world, not God’s.

Her life had always been like that: whatever good-natured offer for help she made, it ended up badly. Sometimes she’d even considered herself an evil woman, for not being able to help anyone because she only made things worse-she’d given a poor man some money once, and he used it to buy beer, got drunk and got into a fight that killed him-and had thought of maybe ending it. It would have been more simple.

Then she lost her 100th job. And then, she found the clock. There were two Mirandas, now. The one before the clock, and the one after. The one after had people that had ended up believing in her. People that thanked her-Allen, whom for all his kindness, Miranda would need a hundred lives to be able to repay him; Lenalee, who was probably far more of a woman than Miranda herself, but still allowed her to act like an old biddy because it made her smile. People that helped her-all those sailors, forming a shield to protect her, Marie telling her it was okay to stop. People that, with their kindness and no intention at all, had ended up saving her in more ways than one.

She owed her life to these people, and would keep trying, keep forgoing sleep, keep controlling her clumsiness as best as she could, keep fighting just to keep them alive, safe, and with a smile on their faces. When she managed to make Allen feel happier with just one piece of candy, she learned another lesson: now, she could help.
