"Do you think there's anything out there, Squall?" The question caught the brunette slightly off guard, grey-blue eyes turning to focus on the small boy at his side. Well, he had never really thought about that before; yeah, he had heard the stories and the myths -- that's all they were, right? -- but he didn't particularly believe them.
"I don't know. Maybe." The least he could do was humor his younger friend, the blonde smiling brightly and gripping his hand in their normal habit when they sat out here on the balcony together. One of the normal things they did, actually.
"Yeah, of course there are . . ." Squall turned his head once more toward his companion, curiosity showing in his face. "One of these days, when I become as strong as you or Sephiroth, I'm gonna find a way to those worlds." Bright eyes locked with Squall's, a childish mirth in his face, "And we can explore them together." He broke eye contact again, casting his eyes to the endless and faraway sky above them, the gentle breeze kissing his cheeks softly.
". . . Yeah . . ." He turned his attention where Cloud was watching, a light grin, rare and reserved especially for the blonde, slipping onto his supple lips. "We'll explore them together."

Title: Within the Darkness
Author: Lafayel ruby_shards
Pairing: LeonxCloud
Fandom: Kingdom Hearts
Theme: #66, Between the sheets; # 67, Night will never stay, #68, Lullaby; #74, Voice
Disclaimer: I don't own it. SE does.

The Darkness was creeping in again, breaking through the reverie that he had created in his own mind to block out the horrid whispers and the voices and the words of the dead that he didn't want to hear.
"Are you afraid? Why? What is there to fear in something that is as simple as the Darkness, as something that we face every single day, that we live with in our chests?"
It was persistent, that voice, the stern and all-knowing words drifting in and out along with the brush of fingers over skin and the overwhelming feeling of being swallowed and lost in something that had no end, that merely was and never stayed, yet at the same time, never really went away.
"How can you fear it? How can you feel such things such as 'fear' and 'sadness?' We were not meant to have emotions."
He voice cracked, but he soon found the words and the drive to respond, his eyes narrowing defiantly. "But-but I do have emotions! I feel anger and hate and-"
"You feel the Darkness in your heart growing." There was a pause in the words, as if the speaker were searching for the best way to word his thoughts and his opinions, to convey the greatest meaning and hurt possible in that simple explanation.
"Every heart has Darkness. Every person feels such emotions, even ones such as us . . . But they are not true emotions. Emotions such as sadness and love and caring . . . These are things that we are not capable of."
"You're lying!"
He was screaming now, screaming and kicking against the Darkness that always seemed to be there and to never yield, even if he screamed until he couldn't any more and the bitter taste of blood filled his mouth. There was a hiss of annoyance from the other occupant of the nothingness, a brief struggle between Light and Dark as he fought even though he couldn't see to fight properly.
"You are nothing but the Darkness!"
He screamed once more, strong hands falling on his arms and . . .
And he woke up, screeching into the night as he lurched forward and pulled himself away from the tight, warm grip that had fallen on his shoulders, sapphire eyes widening with shock and fear as a voice forced its way into his scattered thoughts.
"Cloud, listen to me. Calm down!" The pure concern that was laced with the gentle voice caused him to glance around the room for the source, his breath coming in short, heavy gasps, a thin layer of cold sweat trailing down the side of his face as he moved. Dark blue eyes locked with fear-filled stormy ones and the sight itself was enough to knock him out of his panic attack, his face loosening as he gaped over at the elder man.
Fear. There was fear in his eyes, fear for him, for his safety, his well being. The emotionless Leon that he had come to know could really feel fear?
"Cloud . . .?" It was a question, a simple word used to ask so many things, the blonde shaking his head slowly as he drew himself further away from the phantom traces of the nightmare and toward the strong hands that had once more come to rest on his shoulders. "It was just a dream; there's nothing to worry about."
A dream? But it was so real, so . . .
"I-I know." He ignored the brief breaking of his voice, his face turning downward and toward the blankets as he drew slender arms around his knees, a small breeze of air tickling Leon's cheeks as Cloud's wing moved to curl around his body in a shielding manner. There was a brief moment where neither of them moved nor spoke before Leon leaned forward, arms wrapping around the smaller man protectively, hands draping against his arms and face pressed into messy blonde hair.
"Leon . . . ?" The other man didn't reply, simply shaking his head to silence his companion as he pulled Cloud to his chest and held him there in a soft, calming embrace.
"I'll . . . stay here until you can fall asleep again, alright?" The blonde tensed, startled by the sudden touch before relaxing against the man's chest, releasing his knees and shifting until he was lying between the sheets comfortably, his arms dragging Leon down with him. There was a soft noise from the brunette as he was pulled beneath the blankets, his grey-blue eyes narrowing just slightly as Cloud latched his grip onto the older man's waist, his face pressing against Leon's neck.
"Stay here all night . . . Please." There was a moment of brief, nervous silence before Leon gave a small nod, the man shifting in his position until he was comfortable. Cloud couldn't help but smile, just faintly, as he was pulled once more toward the man's body, his cheek resting on Leon's exposed collarbone.
The Ice Prince was agreeing to his request? It almost made him laugh, to think about it like that. Leon had never been one to touch others or to be touched himself, but here he was, wrapped around him and slowly drifting off into sleep. Cloud curled against the warmth that the other's body provided, the sound of Leon's breathing beneath his head and the tightening of arms about his waist providing enough of a lullaby to lure him back into the depths of slumber.
Only this time, something told him that there were no nightmares, no phantoms of the past to haunt him. Just this warmth holding him close and chasing all such things away.
Cloud hadn't realized the kiss being pressed softly, almost hesitantly, onto his lips until it had been ended, glowing blue eyes snapping open to glance up at his companion. Surprisingly Leon's eyes were closed, as if he were already asleep, and Cloud couldn't help but grin at the light dusting of embarrassment across the elder man's cheeks.
For once in his life since the Darkness, Cloud really, truly wished that the night would never end.
But it would. A sigh brushed past his lips at that realization and he moved entirely against Leon's body, taking in the warmth and the scent that was Leon, his eyes closing in comfort.
The night wouldn't stay for long, but at least he could spend what remained of it like this, safe and away from the Darkness.
And the thought itself caused Cloud to smile his soft, reserved grin once again, the blonde finally falling back into a dreamless sleep.

One more, I swear.

Title: Memories
Author: Lafayel ruby_shards
Pairing: LeonxCloud
Fandom: Kingdom Hearts
Theme: #3, Path of sin; #10, Eyes; #20, A bit of colour; #46, Loneliness
Rating: PG
Disclaimer: I still don't own it.

Bright, cat-like green eyes.
They were the only things he saw in the Darkness any more: two pinpoints of color shattering the monochrome stillness of the abyss and chilling him down at the base of his spine. A bit of color, and strong arms around his lithe body, words and whispers of either the person holding him or not - he couldn't really tell any more - filling his ears and mind.
That really was all that the Darkness ever was, actually: the voices of the dead muttering words that he could barely understand over and over into his ears.
It was enough to drive him insane.
"Are you afraid?" Hands slipping from his hips to his arms, trapping him there. "We can't feel fear, cannot feel emotions as trivial as such."
"Please, Seph, stop!"
Heh. He always screamed in these moments; those moments when his mind tried to dig through layers of Darkness and bring out the memories it had hid from him.
It never worked, really. All he ever saw was the Darkness and those eyes.
"You have chosen the path of Darkness, the path of sin in your moment of anger and hate. You are the Darkness, not him."
"That's not true!"
"Why do you choose to deny it?"
"I am not!"
It was a different voice this time, yes, but it still held that same air to it; all-knowing, calm and icy, even in moments such as these. The voice was familiar, painfully so, but he couldn't connect it to a face.
No, that would be too much of an accomplishment. The Darkness would never allow something as great as that.
A moment of silence followed that memory before a rush of words broke it, bringing a softer, lighter voice into his head.
"Are you alright?"
"Yeah . . . Sorry to worry you."
"Hmm . . . I was afraid that I might have gone too hard on you this time." A pout was give at that.
"Of course not! I can fight, too!"
Who's voice was that? It was different than the last two - kinder, yet still slightly strained and stoic - its tone warmer than what he had grown accustomed to in these memories.
Desperate to hear only that voice he clung to it, shoving himself into another memory with that voice.
"Cloud, I . . ." A pause. The teen had never been good at speaking openly, had he? ". . ."
He was feigning sleep, waiting, breath struggling to remain even.
And he had experienced his first kiss.
"Squ-"
And before the name could finish on his past self's lips the memory slipped through his fingers like water, trickling away into the black nothingness and once more leaving him alone with himself in the dark.
And the loneliness was all ways the worst part of the Darkness.

There. Darkness fetish and all. ^^;
