I suppose it's time for an update.
Exactly four years ago I was living in Portland at my Dad's house and working at Wells Fargo answering phones. It's crazy how time flies. I was watching on the news today how there were memorials at Ground Zero, it's still hard to believe what happened.
Anyway, quite a lot has happened in the last few weeks. I went on vacation for a few weeks, almost three. It was a nice break. The other crew has the boat so I don't have to see it or stand duty which is a good thing.
Erin and I went to visit my Mom, Sister and Stepdad in Idaho for a few days. We had a good time. The folks live on a river and we took the boat up their river, across the lake and up another river on the other side of the lake, then into another few lakes that are connected to that river. Lots of lakes and rivers.
We also went to a family friend's indoor shooting range and shot a few handguns. I got the chance to shoot a H&K UMP .40 Submachine gun. That was a lot of fun.
Matt and I also took a backpacking trip into the Olympic National Forest to fish a river I heard of. We took a wrong turn and ended up hiking over a mountain pass - basically 6 miles uphill and then 6 down. After the morning warm up we found the right trail and headed down it. By the time we reached the river I could barely walk. But, it was fun regardless.
Then I took a week of vacation and didn't really do anything at all. It was a nice way to relax. I just lounged around the house and chilled. I really didn't want to go back to work.
The last weekend of my vacation Erin and I went to go visit my Dad in Portland. We went to the coast and visited the aquarium in Newport and the Wax Works Museum. We ate seafood at Mo's, that was a good time. It's good to have family close.
Today I went fishing up this river that's not too far from the house. It's perfect for a day trip. I did alright, the fish were small but fought hard. I had a difficult time hooking up with a few of them, I got quite a few strikes but couldn't set the hook. It was a nice day and the scenery was pretty too. There were a few too many other fisherman though. I don't really like being around other people and a few times I got some unwelcomed visitors. I think I'll go back up next week even still.
A few of my friends from work and I are going to go on another backpacking trip in a few weeks back to the same river Matt and I went to. Hopefully it'll work out better and we'll have more fun this time.
I applied for this Customer Service call center job. Hopefully it'll work out. The only way I could do it is if I can get evening hours and/or work part time. It'd be nice to have a little bit extra income for a few months.
That's enough for now. Until then...
