Seth held a board while Matt screwed it in to complete a block of shelves. They had decided to give Javier his own black cubby, which though shorting the room, would mean Javier had privacy only as long as his mess was small enough to stay inside his space.
The cubby didn’t have a window, but Matt had installed a skylight, so it would be lit at least part of the day.
“You know,” said Matt. “He won’t use it. Josh doesn’t.”
“But hope springs eternal.”
And Seth and Matt grinned as they bonded over being fathers of teenaged sons.
