His stomach rumbled gaining a smile from his host. The smell of bread had tempted him to lower shields before, but there was something new in the looks this knight gave him. It caused a fluttering deep inside him that wasn’t from hunger but the unexpected pang of hope.
‘Hello again’ the deep voice caressed him. Hands gentle as they shook his then showed him to a seat as though he was visiting royalty. He was served the honey bread while it was still warm and offered a choice of tea or ale.
Bemused, he realized he was being courted.
