Oliver looked around the drab apartment, and examined Annette as she knelt in front of the design on the floor. The clear designs of the runes and the lit candles strewn around the rough circular pattern gave a sinister glow to the otherwise unlit room.
Oliver stepped forward and sat down next to his old friend, and noticed her usually bright features smothered under a heavy maroon scarf and worn composure.
He tried to stir conversation, ”The usual witchcraft?”
“Yes,” she replied with a dull smile.
Oliver carefully reexamined the design.
“You missed a rune.”
“Oh, thanks.”
