220 years is a long time to have at your disposal. Too long to to sit, think, second-guess, and wonder whether the decisions made in the heat of the moment, because of the excitement accompanying discovery, were the right ones.
Immortality. It sounded so beautiful in 1711, like the answers to everybody’s prayers, and everybody on the Avenna Avis was ready and willing to sacrifice their humanity in exchange for eternal life. Who knew the toll exacted would be so heavy? That we would start devouring one another?
Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned.
