Billowing upward from the tray atop the nightstand, the faint yet fragrant smoke of two half diminished clove cigarettes wisps briefly, hangs in the air, then vanishes amidst the dim atmosphere. Two soaked bodies entwine beneath a thin black sheet.
Midian croons ”This is how we were. ”
Nick retorts with an unintelligible murmur.
The day is new. They can’t disregard their pasts; they have lost themselves.
Midian drops her head.“Forget about me.”
