Mr. Gold surveyed the sum of his life’s work. In his small pawnshop he had more merchandise then he could display, and he liked it that way.
He was a collector, a dealer and a procurer. He knew that nothing was beyond his reach.
But, why did he feel so empty? Surrounded by the treasures and wealth that summed up a life full of material ambition, he still felt that same bottomless black hole in his heart. He still felt…hollow.
He remembered feeling this same way as far back as memory allowed.
If all his fortune couldn’t satisfy, what could?
