Notes: This is inspired by the Adele song Someone Like You, which always brings back my own memories. What I wrote here isn't my moment, exactly, but writing this still somehow feels healing, ten years later.
She hadn't known he had liked her once, when they had first met. Or that she had hurt him by not knowing.
Then, one day (it seemed), she liked him. Of course she did.
Eventually he knew.
Eventually, it got ugly, they said things they couldn't take back, there was one real kiss, and now they are (as they have always been) friends.
Eventually, he married someone else.
But before that, before "eventually," there were midnight breakfasts in the basement of the campus center, there were doodles on spiral-bound notebooks. There were smiles.
The smiles are what she remembers most.
