Lily had a hard time falling back asleep, but she had done it. Perhaps that was why she was annoyed when she woke up about a hour later. She woke up, not because Harry was crying or needing something, but for hearing James shouting. She sighed as she got up and grabbed her wand kept on the nightstand. She was too tired to do ay real magic, but knew she probably could if the situation called for it. She heard a second voice, a softer probably voice of reason person, but she couldn't make out exactly who it was. She made her way to the top of the stairs and then down, moving closer to the kitchen where the sound was coming from. She figured out the softer voice belonged to Sirius and she relaxed a bit. She opened the kitchen door and looked at the two Marauders, waiting patiently for an explanation.

“Hi Lily,” Sirius said as he noticed her. He moved his eyes away as he noticed the rips in her nightgown. He moved his eyes to her face and kept his focus there before looking over to James. “Sorry we woke you. It was just a small disagreement.”

“Small disagreement about what?” Lily asked, not about to accept such a thinly veiled change the subject from Sirius. Her eyes moved onto James, waiting for some explanation.

“What happened?” James asked. He grabbed his cloak that he placed on the back of a chair and wrapped her up in it. “Are you alright?”

“Do not try to change the subject,” Lily replied. “I want to know what you two were disagreeing about.”

James sighed and gently hugged Lily. “He wants us to use Peter as the secret keeper, for the rationale that all the Death Eaters would come after him. And, well, I don't think we should change. The spell is already set to happen tomorrow.”

“I know James, but they will come after me, especially Bellatrix. You know that. It is a simple fact.” Sirius thought for a moment, his mind formulating a new plan. “James, if you don't want to use Peter, why not Remus?”

“For the same reason you gave,” James replied. “just switch Fenrir for Bellatrix.”

There was something else in James' voice that Lily detected. James wasn't telling the complete truth on why he didn't want to have Remus as secret keeper. Lily gasped as she figured it out. “James - Remus is not the spy and how could you ever think that of one of your best friends?! He has always been loyal to you, Sirius, and Peter. And if he knew what you thought, he would still defend you against anyone. He would be hurt but he would remain loyal. You should be loyal to him too!”

“Of course Remus isn't the spy,” Sirius says to Lily. “And I doubt James means it.”

James wrinkled his nose at all of this. It had come up vaguely in his mind that it could be Remus. He would never ever voice his concerns, but Lily did and he had to answer for them. “I would never say that, but the thought has crossed my mind. Not just with Remus but with everybody. This entire mess has me on edge and we have Harry to think about as well.”

Lily relaxed at hearing James' explanations. “We have two options though. We could use Dumbledore as our secret keeper...or Deirdra did offer for us to stay in Ireland.”

“I don't want to run,” James says. “That means Voldemort wins.”

“I think safety should be more important than victory. There is work to be done in Ireland too. It wouldn't be a holiday. And its not running to use a different, much more powerful secret keeper,” Lily points out.

“She's right Prongs,” Sirius said quietly.

James nodded a yes. “I want to stay in England though. We'll use Peter.”

“If that is what you think is best,” Lily says. “But I do think there are still better alternatives.”

“But its the best bluff,” James says quietly. “Lily, at least you and Harry should go to Ireland.”

“No,” Lily replied firmly. “My place is by your side and we should have our son with us. We'll be fine and the bluff will work. There's no reason for it not to,” she said but hid the worry in her voice. She did worry if Peter would stand up to anything if he was found. And besides, it would only be a matter of time, even if they did have to go through Sirius and Remus first. That worried her, that two good people would be hurt before...well, she didn't know what to call Peter. All she knew is that she felt something off about him since she met him. But, he is James' friend and for that, and that alone, she held her tongue. She turned her head as she heard Harry cry and then looked at the time. “He's going to want to be fed,” she said as she moved towards getting a bottle ready.

“I'll do it,” Sirius said with a smile. “Its...well, I visit when I can, but I don't mind doing it, Lily.”

Lily grinned. “Thank you Sirius.”

James smiled and gently hugged Lily again. “Lets get you into something warmer love,” he said as he moved her towards the stairs. He got them up the stairs before quietly asking. “What happened? And don't tell me you ripped it, I know those types of marks, Lily. It helps when the spell has been used on you before.”

“James -“ Lily sighed as she thought of the best way to phrase it. “I had a nightmare with Snape in it. He used it on me, but I'm not hurt! I'm not. And it was just a dream.”

James' face darkened as he heard that. He let go of Lily. “Get dressed. We're going to Moony's. We can't stay here anymore.”

“A dream, love,” Lily said quietly. “Nothing more. You know I love you.”

“That has nothing to do with it and I know that,” James said as his face softened a bit. “But it can't be a dream if your nightgown is like that. It means he got inside the house. We're not staying where a Death Eater can get in. So, get dressed. I'll get Harry's immediate things packed and we'll come back for the rest when we can.” He sent down a messenger patronus rather than yelling down to Sirius that they were leaving and he'd explain when he got down there.

Lily went into their bedroom and closed the door with a sigh. She moved and got dressed, so they could go and be safe from the darkness they were imagining behind every corner.
