"Ron, stop beating around the bush!" Hermione scolded. She glared hotly at the boy standing before her and Harry. The redhead had asked them if he could tell them something and now he couldn't even get the words out of his throat.
"Yeah, Ron," Harry agreed, "You said you had something to say, so say it."
"Okay," Ronald Weasly took in a deep breath and exhaled slowly, "Here's the thing, I..."
His two best friends watched him closely as his gaze skittishly shifted back and forth. They gave him a disbelieving stare and huffed. Hermione crossed her arms over her chest and ignored the open book and half-written on parchment for the time being. The common room had been emptied for the sole purpose of letting the three of them talk, yet Ron couldn't utter a single word.
"Ronald Weasly, if you don't spit it out this instant I'm going to take my business elsewhere," the bushy-haired witch announced, Harry nodding along.
"Fine. Just give me a second."
"We've given you more than a second already," she retorted. Hermione was really rather nice and compassionate, but after their rocky relationship ended there was always a bit of awkwardness. And Ron's short-temper managed to rub off a little on her.
"I have a...."
"A what?" Harry prodded.
"I have a," he trailed off, "I'm in a relationship," he re-worded.
"You are?" The famous boy raised an eyebrow.
"Yeah."
"And this is vitally important how?" Hermione questioned.
"It's just that..." Ron picked at his sleeve and looked around embarrasedly. "I'm not with a..."
"Gryffindor?" Harry butted in. "It's alright. I liked Cho, remember? And she's in Ravenclaw." A lightbulb appeared to go off in his head, and Harry looked with astonishment at the redhead, "Don't tell me you're with a Slytherin."
"Ron? WIth a Slytherin?" Hermione intercepted, "He's the most prejudist guy against Slytherins we know."
"Yeah, Harry, I'm with a Slytherin," Ron replied, completely ignoring the female's comment. His words caused the two of them to stare at him doubtfully.
"No, seriously, Ron," Harry replied.
The redhead bit at his lip before stating, "That's not all."
"What do you mean, 'that's not all'?" Hermione treaded softly.
"You guys, uh, love me and all that rot, right?"
"Well, of course," Hermione replied, earning a nod from Harry as well.
"Okay, well, I hope you do after this..." he trailed off.
"What could possibly be so bad that you think we'll dump you as our friend?" Harry questioned.
"I'm dating a bloke." Well, no beating around the bush there.
For a while there was silence. Harry was letting the words process in his brain. He's best friend - his first friend - was not only dating a Slytherin. But also a boy Slytherin? That's just...bloody well insane. But did that make him like the redhead any less? Nope, not in the slightest bit. The way he saw it, it was better Ron came out with a boyfriend else he would've felt like the bloke would hit on him. And of course Hermione was okay with it, she tried to be the least prejudist of the group.
"Uh.. Guys?" Ron broke the silence.
Hermione hugged him suddenly. "It's great news! I'm happy for you, really, I am," she said as he wrapped his own arms around her and sighed with relief. Now all he had to worry about was Harry.
Just at that moment, Harry put a hand on his shoulder, as the bushy genius was still embracing him. "It's your choice. But, it's not Malfoy, is it?"
"Ugh. Merlin, no!"
Hermione pulled back, "Then who is it?"
The redhead only smirked, "Malfoy's best friend."
Two thirds of the Golden Trio had their jaws drop. "Zabini?!"
"That's the one." Ron smiled.
End.
