The air was chilly, as crisp autumn leaves fell to the ground. The floor of the park, as well as its balding trees and metal benches were illuminated by the moonlight.
There were quiet and slow footsteps that came from the gate. A woman, wearing a coat, jeans and a sweater came in, her eyebrows furrowed in curiosity and worry. Her hair was down today. She clutched on to her shoulder bag carefully, looking around.
"Harry?" She whispered, "Are you there?"
"I'm over here." Harry called, smiling. She turned around to see his pale skin glowing because of the moon, his bright green eyes sparkling. The hair on his head was unruly, and he had never learned to tame it. She sighed in relief.
She fell into his arms suddenly, wrapping him close to her. "I've missed you." She said quietly and in a small voice.
He chuckled, and she could feel his chest shake when he did; she smiled some more, and hugged him tighter, "Relax," he told her, "Just relax."
She relaxed, and then melted into his warm arms. He ran his fingers through her hair, a small smile on his face.
"How have you been?" He asked.
"I've been better. Ron's becoming harder to live with." She said in a bitter tone.
"Ginny's the same." He said. There was amusement in his voice.
"Why don't we just leave them? It'll just be you and me. I like that..." She suggested, looking up at him with eager eyes. There was a goofy smile on her face as she saw the corners of his lips curl upward into a smile.
"Relax, Hermione." He repeated.
"It's not as easy as it sounds." He said, answering her question and then he chuckled. "And I had the reputation of being a troublemaker? This is probably one of the craziest ideas I've heard from you."
"It's not an idea." Hermione murmured, "It's my decision. I've decided that I would break up with him two days from now."
She looked up at him now, breathless. How was it that he could look so perfect tonight? How was it that his scent intoxicated her and that his arms fit exactly around her?
"You have choices, options." He reminded her, their faces were only inches apart. He kissed her cheek lovingly, a boyish smile on his face. "You don't really have to if you feel like I'm forcing you."
She stood still for a moment taking in ragged breaths, his hands cupping her face.
"Choices." He repeated. This time a chaste kiss on her mouth, "You told me you would think it through, Hermione. Be rational. It's not fair for Ron, he loves you."
"And you love me." She told him, "And I love you. So, what about him?"
He let his arms fall to his side. "Indeed. What about Ron?" After a long silence, he smiled smugly, his gaze intensifying. "I'm a bad influence, Hermione. I shouldn't have asked you to come."
"But Harry, I really want this. You're not forcing me." She whispered. Desperation was evident in her voice.
"Things would've hurt less for them-and us-if I hadn't told you..." He mused, looking away from her the first time since she arrived.
"You're not selfish, Harry." She said after a while, reading his thoughts.
"I am." He said under his breath. But Hermione was able to hear him for they were so tightly pressed against each other.
"I'm hurting everybody. I can't believe it. Even when Voldemort's gone I still manage to hurt the ones I love." He whispered. "Hermione-I-I can't. It...It would break Ginny and Ron's hearts. It's not fair."
He felt her arms around him tighten, and then felt his shirt become damp.
"You're right," She chocked out, "We're both being selfish."
He rested his chin on top of her head in an understanding manner, the two lay in each others arms with a sense of serenity.
"But," Hermione said, "How could something so wrong be so right?"
A low chuckle escaped his lips once again, "Beats me."
"Come on." She challenged, looking up at him with now eager eyes once again. "Let's be selfish-just for tonight."
"Just for tonight?" Harry asked, quirking his eyebrows.
"Yup." She said, biting on her bottom lip, her cheeks were now tinted pink.
"If I had my way," He said and then took a deep breath. He looked at her and then smiled childishly. She lost her breath in anticipation, and then quirked her eyebrows to let him continue.
"If I had my way, we'd be selfish the rest of our lives."
