The words had already formed in is mind.

A place where Theo and I can be alone.

They were largely redundant, as the room obviously had made its mind up before Colin had. Only minutes earlier, when he’d passed it, on the way to the portrait that led to the dungeons, he had heard music coming from inside. He had been under the impression, at least from what Harry had once said, that it was you that had to think of what you wanted the room to be - not the other way round. He supposed that he’d been thinking of what he wanted as he entered the seventh floor and the Room of Requirement had just picked up on it.

The first time that Colin had taken Theodore to the room it had been rather plain. The walls were the usual Hogwarts stone and there had been two stools in the centre. It didn’t worry him what it looked like though as he had only asked for some place they could be alone. Theodore had never heard of the Room of Requirement before, which wasn’t a surprise as it was pretty much only members of the DA that had.

The second time was markedly different. He had asked for nothing different, just a place to be alone. The room had decided to spruce things up a bit. There was now a rug and a few throw cushions scattered near a coffee table, upon which sat a pot of Earl Grey tea, piping hot just the way Theodore liked it. Colin had been a bit miffed at this, as he wasn’t a tea drinker and it was he that had asked for the room. Almost instantaneously a glass of hot apple cider had appeared on the table. Theodore had prompted him to say thankyou, which he did and the room seemed to glow momentarily.

It was on their fifth journey inside its walls that the room had shown it’s true colours. A large fire was burning in the hearth on the far wall, A gramophone and a selection of records were sitting on a small table. The roof was lower and the room seemed smaller, and there was snow falling outside the window. They had laughed out loud at the rooms’ eagerness to get things just right.

Earlier today, as he made his back to his dorm from Charms, he had been sure that he heard Miles Davis. This, of course, was crazy. Portraits do not listen to music, he thought. No one listened to Miles Davis, as far as he knew, other than Theodore. The room had discovered this through trial and error, it had placed popular, classical and everything in between for them to listen to. It wasn’t until its third try that the room had stumbled across the soothing sounds of Miles. Colin had never heard anything like it before, his dad liked listening to a band called The Stones and his mum was more a Beatles person, dear. He’d never really paid attention to music, even from an early age he’d been far more interested in his mum’s old camera.

Colin never questioned how a full-blood wizard had come to love the sounds of jazz, there were after all much stranger things in the world of magic. Theodore had let out a most un-Slytherin like whooping sound when he had found the record beside the gramophone. Moment’s later Colin had found himself swept from his comfortable chair by the fire and into Theodore’s arms. Colin didn’t dance, or more precisely, he had never been taught how.

"I can’t dance." He had said, feeling rather stupid.

"Of course you can, every one can dance."

"Not me." Colin said, trying desperately not to step on Theodore’s feet.

Theodore would have none of it.

"Just follow my lead." Theodore said, sliding his hand around Colin’s waist.

Colin had stumbled around after Theodore for a few moments before the older boy had stopped near the fireplace. Colin was about to apologise for his ineptitude; there really hadn’t been an opportunity for him to learn before. At the Yule Ball a couple of years earlier, he had been either to busy jumping up and down to the Wyrd Sisters or taking photographs to actually dance. The only person to actually dance with him that night had been Cedric - which was a story in itself.

"You’re trying too hard." Theodore said.

"I’m sorry. I’m not very good." He professed.

"Nonsense. You’ve got the basics." Theodore said, then he leaned into Colin, whispering in his ear, "Now, just feel the music."

"I’ll try."

"Let it caress you"

Theodore pulled him in close, his hands sliding gently up Colin’s back.

"Wash over you."

Lips ghosted gently over his, brushing them softly as Theodore continued his instruction.

"Feel the sound here," Theodore’s hand slipped over his forehead and then moved down over his chest, "and here," it paused briefly on his pounding heart then dropped lower, "and most importantly here."

Colin gasped as Theodore’s hand came to a rest on his crotch.

"Jazz is all about sex, Colin."

Theodore’s lips finally found his, Colin’s mouth was dry but that didn’t stop him from returning the kiss with fervour.

"In that case," Colin said, pulling back a little from Theodore, "I’ll just have to try a little harder."
