Hurrah, yet another place I can go to avoid doing schoolwork. I just don't have enough of those. I mean, before livejournal when I wanted to procrastinate, it meant whipping out the old toothbrush and cleaning the grout between the bathroom tiles. Now I can clean the proverbial tiles from the comfort of my own computer, or someone elses computer, or the computers in the phonetics lab at school. That's what they are there for right?
What surprised me is the amount of linguisticky people who are stuck on livejournal. I just want to say now that I have a livejournal account and have added you to my friends list, I feel more connected to you than ever, and that's just plain sad.
I'm not sure I really like my user name, it's as if being given the power to name myself crushed all the creativity out of me, and I just fell back on my geeky ways. I liked it better when Mum and Dad handed out the names. Let them do the work. I can't imagine what it would have been like if I had to come up with my own name within seven days of my birth, especially given what they tend to like to do to little jewish baby boys when they name them. I probably would have opted out of the naming process altogether. Eventually they might put the 2nd person pronoun on my driver's licence.
I guess I should be proud of my name though, since I am a geek, and have been since way before it was even considered acceptable to be a geek. I'm not talking as far back as biting the heads off chickens geek, but I am talking about 300Baud modems geek, back when connecting to the internet still made that freaky noise like an oscilloscope being run through a meat grinder or a Beck hidden track on acid. Back to the days of BBS's when websites didn't link to each other so you had to phone each one up separately and nobody had to put numbers on the end of their email address because somebody had already come up with the same clever idea for an email address that you did. There were enough original email addresses and usernames to go around. Not anymore, those days are gone.
All the witty usernames are gone.
I tried some other witty usernames but I gave up after a few tries. I refused to slap a number on the end of my username, because I refuse to be a copy, a clone, named in somebody else's image.
After all, I'm not a number, I'm a ratio. I'm 100 Percent Geek. :)
