Not feeling his wife beside him, Nathan woke up slowly and rubbed his eyes. He focused for a moment, hearing the sounds of her heaves in the bathroom and he quickly got up. Forgetting completely about any type of clothing to cover his semi-naked body, he raced across the living room.
“Hales?” he asked through the door, knocking gently on it.
He could hear her soft sobs through the wood and a frown came to his face. He tried the door and, finding it unlocked, pushed it open. He reached over and flicked on the light, seeing a pale Haley clutching the edges of the porcelain facility.
“Baby,” he said softly as he kneeled beside her, his hand reaching up to brush some of her hair from her face.
Haley’s eyes closed at the gesture and she let out a soft laugh, though her cheeks were still wet with the tears she’d cried.
“I didn’t mean to wake you,” she said softly. She moved from the kneeling position to actually sitting on the floor, her back resting against the tub.
Nathan moved to sit beside her, his arms wrapping gently around her. She laid her head on his shoulder as he rubbed her back lovingly.
“Don’t worry about waking me up,” he whispered into her hair. He kissed her forehead soothingly before tucking some more of her tresses behind her ear. “How are you feeling?”
“A little better,” she said, her eyes closed as she let out a soft sigh.
Nathan took his hand and rested it gently on her large baby bump. “It’ll be over soon,” he whispered before kissing her gently.
