Summary: And he looks away.
"You did what?" His voice sounds so distant, so wrong against the harsh quiet of the cave, but the surprise doesn't care. It slips past his lips, into his tone, and they can both hear it.
Steph shrinks into her chair. "He...asked me to be Robin. I took it, Tim. You...'re not him anymore. And Batman needs a Robin, right?" She smiles, hopeful that his words will have some effect on him It takes all he has not to glare at her. "Yeah. Yeah, Steph, you're right."
A rush of relief spreads across her face and she embraces him, the Robin suit smelling like her, just like her. "Thanks, Tim."
It doesn't take so much to hug her back -- this time.

Summary: He is ready.
He was going to die. And he was okay with that.
So drowning wasn't his ideal way to die, so what? He's going to be okay. The water is soothing, reaching up to meet him, to surround him. Like his mother, like his father, like a parent. It peels off the Robin mask, pulls him free of the costume, knocks the breath from his chest.
It prepares him.
He breathes in life from it. It wants him. It knows him.
And he is calm.
He is within it.
They are one.
He welcomes them.
He welcomes Stephanie.
He welcomes Conner.
He welcomes his father.
He welcomes his mother.
They welcome him, smiles abound and they are one.
He is finished.

Summary: If there was ever a reason to prove that this were a dream, it'd be the fact that Steph's alive.
There's marble, white and Steph's grinning at him, walking down an aisle. Truthfully, he's spent hours daydreaming a day like this, perfect, with Steph in his arms, being his. He's dreamt about this.
He's dreaming now, and they both know it.
Still, Steph grins, happy as the daylight fanning around her, as the smiles around her, happy as Bruce and Dick and Kon and Cassie and his mom and Dad and Dana and Bart and.
She's happy because she's his and vice versa. Even if it is just a dream, it's his dream.
She melts into his arms as they kiss and he never lets go. Not even as she continues to melt, her body running and mixing with her dress, her skin going pale and seeping into the floor.
He holds her, and never lets go.
He continues to sleep.
