Liz sat in front of the Christmas tree. The lights twinkled; almost laughingly. Her hands gripped her cup. She was waiting for the call.
Liz had been unable to travel to Plattsburgh because of the storm. The other X-Men were stranded at Muir Island. They had went there for Kitty's baby shower.
Remy was the only X-Man left at the mansion.
Her cell phone rang. Liz nearly jumped out of her skin. "Hello?"
"She died, Elizabeth." Came her Uncle's voice. She started to shake, dropping her phone.
"Cava?" Remy asked. Are you okay? His warm arms wrapped around her. It was the first time he had touched her.
"M-m-my grandma died." LIz sobbed on his shoulder.
"I'm sorry, ma cherie." Remy hugged her close. She was the first one to allow him to get this close. "Well, how 'bout Gambit start de Christmas music? I'll throw some Gumbo together an' we have us a party."
"Spicy?" Liz asked looking up at him.
"As spicy as vous wan'." Remy said softly. "I have a gift for vous."
"Huh?" Liz looked up at him.
He smiled at her and took it from under the tree. "Here cherie."
Liz took the present running her hand across the red paper. "I don't have anything for you!"
Remy waved his hand at her. "No matter. Vous deserve it. Vous gave moi your friendship. I value dat."
Liz opened the gift; tears in her eyes. Inside was a beautiful amythyst bracelet. "Thank you, Remy."
The clock behind them struck midnight. "Joyeux Noël."
"Thank you." She whispered wrapping her arms around him again. Remy had really made her Christmas a little less sad.
