Every night, we sit in a circle in the “courtyard” between our apartment buildings. All of us - me, my seven roommates, the kids we work with at the bagel shop, the NH house from down the street, and the Irish neighbors staying in town for the summer. We drink, smoke, sing and laugh until morning, sitting on chairs, turned-sideways shopping carts, upside down laundry baskets, the ground. We take advantage of the warm nights and cheap booze. We’re doing only exactly what we want to do all summer, and I will never forget the smell or the feel of it.
