~*~*~*~*
Dana knows that she can’t find any sleep tonight; too much is on her mind, too many things she’s to deal with - but, for once, it is not related to her work or to a case they’re working on. It isn’t even about the trauma she’s still suffering from ever since she nearly died a few weeks ago.
No, the reason why she can’t find sleep tonight is that she can’t forget how his fingers felt on her cheek and how he has looked at her today (the way he’s been looking at her for weeks now).
She could blame last year’s events for it.
She tried. It didn’t work.
She could explain it by their work relationship.
It wouldn’t work either.
She could assume it is because he almost lost her to death.
It wouldn’t be true.
She could say that it doesn’t affect her.
It would be a lie.
No, the way Mulder keeps looking at her, the way he always seems to find an excuse to touch her these days, has other reasons.
There is not just concern in his eyes, when he looks at her, and when he touches her it isn’t just in a way you’d touch your colleague, so careful, soft and tender.
When he looks at her, she sees more than concern, friendship. It is affection, desire, the search for something more- almost like she’d look into a mirror; his eyes are a mirror to her own soul, to what’s lying hidden deep inside of her; things she hasn’t allowed herself to feel, to think, to even hope for.
Until now.
Something’s changed.
What was hopeless is suddenly possible.
What was impossible is suddenly in reach.
But is this what she wants?
Her heart says ‘yes’, but her mind isn’t so sure (yet).
