Intro, questions, first picture...

 Hi Everyone,

I am new to this community and really enjoying all the pictures.  Can someone explain (in English lay terms) how to do the cut?  I did several tests based on the instructions and it's not working for me.  I can post one photo (#3 Feathered) to show you what I mean.

Do you use rich text mode normally? In that case, the html tags won't work- you'll need to select what you want in the cut and then push the button for an LJ cut. ^_^

Thanks. I tested that. When you use the button, it grays everything out in a box, but then when I post, it looks just like the one I did yesterday. No link, just the picture in the message. Could I have something set wrong?

The way I personally do it is by adding text with it the code would look like this
<&lj-cut text="TEXT HERE"&>
Everything inbetween
<&/lj-cut&>

Just delete the &'s =)

Thanks,

That's how I did the one I posted and it did not work. This is becoming more frustrating than fun. :(

Yep, did it both ways, with and without text in HTML. Neither works. Same is true for the button in Rich Text. Something must be going on with my settings or my connection, although, that doesn't really make sense to me. I will try again with text only, no pics and see if that works. Maybe I need to upload the pictures differently.

When you use the "LJ cut" button, you should first get a scripted text box that you can use to change what it says. (from "read more" to "look here" or whatever). Once you click on "ok" in that it brings up a gray box one line deep that says, "type your cut contents here". Delete that sentence and add your cut material to that little gray area. (It expands accordingly.) Then finish your post as normal and preview to see if it's what you want (or not). I hope this helps.

Thanks everyone,

I think I finally figured it out. It is working in rich text, but on preview you see the whole thing. I am going to try posting one picture here to see if works right. I appreciate all your help, I feel so clueless!

I find that everything is generally easier if you start out posting in HTML rather then in rich text mode and stay there. Cause for some reason switching back and forth everything gets all screwy. HERE is a good source for all the shortcuts and HTML that Rich Text has, but never seems to work.
