Ni wrapped Gyokumen’s hair around his finger, contemplating.
“You promised results,” she said accusingly.
“Experiments up to this point have furthered our common cause. Failure is a stepping stone to success.”
“There are many stones on this path!”
“Oh? Alright, a different adage: You made your bed, now lie in it.”
His words were cold. She expected that. What she didn’t expect were his warm hands which drew her in close, waking heat in response.
She thought she shared this room at the top with him.
She didn’t realize she was locked in the room, and he held the key.
