They say the rabbit of the moon gave its life. Three exist on my chessboard. I hold a toy one in my grasp. Which of us is hunter, prey or protector? The rabbit was given to the moon, in reverence for its sacrifice. Renewal of life, in the spring and as winter shakes its cold grip from the world. But the moon is also a destroyer when full. Hunter’s moon, when bathed in blood. One takes life, the other renews, and the last gives his life for others. Whose tasks shall they be, as my game draws to a close?
