She lies in bed, annoyed; it’s the loneliness of not having Sam enveloping her as much as the incessant flickering of the lights that makes her restless, a child who’s realized the tantrum is to no avail. That slippery feeling of uselessness, that there’s nothing to do but wait.
A still night, even worse, the darkness having settled in a clump around the house, like even moonlight couldn’t permeate it, and enough of these fucking lamps already.
He should be home now.
She closes her eyes to the soft tap-tap of lightbulbs and works up the energy to go shower.
