We watch the season pull up its own stakes
And catch the last weekend of the last week
Before the gold and the glimmer have been replaced,
Another sun soaked season fades away

“I can get used to missions like this,” Lieutenant Brian Coffey said as he sat at the lavishly set table with the rest of his off-world team.

“You aren’t the only one,” Lieutenant Justin Dillon added, raising his glass of what was described as wine in toast.

Coffey raised his glass in kind, then the two lieutenants sipped their drinks. Major Evan Lorne worked on his glass of some non-alcoholic drink resembling fruit juice, hiding his agreeing smile behind the glass.

“I could as well,” Dr. David Parrish threw in. “This is a fascinating and beautiful place…”

“That she is,” Coffey breathed, not looking at anyone at his table, but at another.

Lorne looked over his shoulder a bit and saw the young woman that Coffey was looking at. And although he agreed, he said nothing. He knew better than to encourage anymore than his silence already did.

But the young woman walked by without glancing at the foreigners, who earned their place at the extravagant party by virtue of sharing their knowledge and offering to provide medical help.

“Think we could convince Dr. Weir to set up a shindig like this back at base?” Dillon asked, looking between his teammates.

“I wouldn’t even ask,” Coffey answered.

The four men chatted for a while, until Coffey’s attention was diverted.

“We have incoming,” he whistled, low enough that only the other three could hear him.

“Excuse me,” a woman’s voice said from behind Lorne.

Lorne turned around, and then stood. “Hello,” was all he could think to say.

“…needs lessons from the Colonel…” Lorne heard Coffey snicker, but ignored him in favor of the beauty standing before him.

“You come from the other land?” she asked. “My name is Naya.”

“Major Evan Lorne…Evan,” he said, then he extended his hand and asked, “Would you like to dance?”

She looked down for a second as her cheeks visibly reddened. Then she slowly looked back up, placed her hand in Lorne’s and slightly nodded. And without looking back, Lorne led the way to the dance floor and showed the others that he was in no need of lessons from anyone.
