Hello world! I have found a source of power at last!! Chris and I have driven to Lexington today and now sit sweating our over dressed butts off at the Barnes and Nobel bookstores Starbucks. That was a mouthful, but its one of the only places for miles, about 30 from home, that has a power source that cant kick us out for using! HOORAY!!!
Two nights ago, about 1137 PM I sat snug as a bug in a rug impatiently awaiting Chris to call and say that Sonic closed early, never happend mind you, when all of a sudden the lights were gone DUN DUN DUUUUUN!!! Well, like the idiots we are, we had just turned the heat down earlier in the day back to 65 from 70. The world around us was a frozen wonderland, from the ice storm the night before. It took almost an hour to free my car from its inch thick ice coating. Trees were falling everyplace. Anyway, at about 1137 Tuesday night we became powerless. I picked Chris up at 4 that morning, still no power. At about 5 that morning we had packed, unpacked and repacked, the cooler and a few cardboard boxes with ice and the contents of the fridge, frozen, they now all sit on the porch. This sucks.
Wednesday, still no power, headed to walmart and kroger, thank god they have power, real power, not generator power. REAL power. A few other bastards threw town do also. Theyre holding out on us! Cosmo is cold as a pup can be. The rats are bastards, I put a towel on the outside of the cage to hold in their heat and they ate it. I also ave them some old socks to build a nest with. Cosmo has given in and lets me wrap him up in a towel from nose to toes to tail and just lays there and takes it. We went to homedepot in lexington bought some charcoal and some bricks, Chris built an oven out on the back deck, so we have something to cook on. I told him we should heat the bricks, wrap them in a towl and bring them into the foot of the bed. Thats what they did int he old days. Bricks, potatoes and canon balls. Its fucking cold is all I have to say. The radio says it coiuld be a week or so before power is back. Hotel rooms are BOOOOKED for miles and it sucks. Alice has a kerosane heater. Shes invited me and chris to stay with her nad Ramika. Her boyfriend. We said we were all set yestarday, but if this goes on much longer we may. I hate to leave cosmo cold nad alone though. We played cards with alice, joe and ramika last night, it was fun. It was nice to get out of the house and hang out with people even if they were old. Ramika is funny as hell. He told chris he was an idiot for buying bricks and that he had cinderblocks and shit, chris waslike pfft cant build an oven with that, ramika showed him up good. Hes the motha fuckin BLACK DANIEL BOONE!! He wouldnt stop shoutin in. Him and chirs are going to have a grill off in the waremer months to come. It should be fun.
Had to call into work and say i couldnt be there today since we have nmo power. Managed a shower this morning it was amazing. The water was still HOOOOOOT AWESOME!!! It sucked when i got out though. I had to wet myself turn the water off wash etc, trn it on and be done. Now we are in lexington buying candels and charging the laptop. There were no candles left at Kroger or walmart. We were going to buy the small expensive febreeze kind, when chris was OH! JESUS CANDLES and took off running. I knew exacly what he ment. We hit the Jesus candel gold mine. What is a Jesus candle? you may be wondering. Well its found in the international foods aisle with the mexican shit, on the bottom shelve with the soda no one buys, a layer of dust a centermeter thick. Theyre just big tall cheao, 99 cent candels in a glass holder that have a big picture of jesus on them. Someone had beat us to jesus,so we had to get the saint jude ones. or something, who ever that fuck is, i dunno. But we hit the candel gold mine.
Well, it was a toasty 42 in the house when we left cosmo, it seems to drop about 5 degrees a day. it was 45 when we went to bed, and 42 when we woke up, doesnt look good. I hope this doesnt last much longer. we are hopefully going to find an oil lamp or camp burner or something and use that as a heat source. We just need one room of the house. Its fun though. Dealing with this. A lot of people are really pissed but its like indoor camping. And Im lucky enough to have chris. If I was here alone i dunno what the hell id be doing. I guess I woulda bought a kerosane heater if i could find one, or just went to a shelter. Maybe the second I lost power i woulda found a hotel room, I doint know. I prolly woulda toughed it out, and not known what to do for food.... cereal and canned goods, pb and j thats what i woulda done. But chris is awesome, and hes doing everything. I have to find a way to work tomorow. its hard to get up on time though. I dont have an alarm clock or anything. I have my dad calling me at 7ish. Hopefully Ill be up and have signal.
Untill We're no longer covered in a land of ice and snow...
