knock on wood but life is a dream. shaye and i are dipping out tomorrow at 1:30 to go get drunk in athens with her friend kristin, then grabbing ben from work at 8, then heading down to STATESBORO. haha have you ever heard of someone being excited about going to statesboro? no. i just can't wait to drink with my good buddy randallion for a weekend. and the crazy car ride down with ben and shaye.
i met with dr. ladd yesterday and dr. reiss today to talk about grad school and my thesis. i now have an extensive reading list for this summer, several different angles i could take with "representations of madness in southern literature," ways to narrow it down based on a variety of things like race, gender, cultural movements, and time periods, and two professors who are both VERY WILLING TO BE EITHER MY THESIS DIRECTOR OR ON MY COMMITTEE OF READERS. it feels so good. i also have a list of grad schools to look at but i am probably going to take a couple years off and work before i get back into that. just to grow up a little bit. but we talked about unc chapel hill, vandy, lsu, uva, emory and MAYBE ole miss, south carolina, and georgia. ladd also mentioned berkeley, harvard, yale, upenn, brown, and michigan. but those seem a bit lofty for my work ethic. but those are all schools with strong american/southern lit departments and faculty who are experts in the field.
i just can't wait to start this thesis! being an english major was such a good call.
