Rediscovering classics in the cassette archive

The Wonderstuff came up in conversation last night during a very enjoyable evening with sarahloo, unascertained and maleghast. I have tonight been eschewing the usual racket I listen to these days and popped on a couple of old cassettes.

First up was "The Eight Legged Groove Machine" by The Wonderstuff, their rather wonderful debut album. I remember them playing "Give Give Give Me More More More" on a late 80's "yoof" TV programme I think. Bought the album on the strength of that alone and wasn't disappointed.

Right now I've got "Box Frenzy" by Pop Will Eat Itself on. Again another 80s indie classic. Anyone around my age must remember hearing "Beaver Patrol" and "There Is No Love Between Us" in the indie/alternative clubs of the day.

One thing that struck me was how many of the lyrics I remembered. Probably haven't heard some of those tracks for 15 years or more, but was still singing along. Don't worry, no-one was around to hear ;-)

Anyway, I think I'll continue to raid the archives in the next few days. Obviously most of it is Goth and Industrial but who knows I may rediscover some other indie classics along the way!
