In my boredom, I decided to contribute a song to a the Mountain Goats covers compilation entitled, "Hi, We're Not the Mountain Goats". The song is called "Edward Munch" and is listed under Golden Calf Figurine. The song was only played once in Tallahassee on February 7th, 1998. I tabbed it out from that recording and re-wrote some of it.

On the recording:

Me - guitars, cello, piano, bass, vocals

Cecilia Greco - vocals

The song came out unexpectedly well considering I recorded it all from a condenser of a 4-track that doesn't work anymore ran into my computer. As much as I like the song, I can't say I am really proud of it since it is a cover and I've never found any point of pride with playing someone else's songs. There is, however, a reason I'm posting this and I will get to that in a second.

We obviously could not sell this for legal reasons nor would I have even participated if it was being sold. Instead of selling it, we decided we would give it away on an honor code; if you receive a copy of it or download it, we urge you to donate a few bucks to Farm Sanctuary here. Farm Sanctuary is just as its name implies; they take in and care for abused and neglected farm animals and are based in Watson Glenn, New York. If it was simply someone else's song I covered and recorded, I wouldn't care about it too much and certainly not enough to make a bulletin post here. Since it could potentially help a good cause, I am a little more inclined to let people know. This is the reason I am posting this. I hope to actually go up to Watkins Glenn sometime before the snow comes and spend a week volunteering myself. I figure it will be nice to get out of the city, be around animals, and generally have some peace and quiet. At the bottom of this, I will also list a few other charities that I have run across that you may be interested in donating to.

You can download the album here.

You can listen to my song here.

It was pressed/packaged by the people involved. I'm not sure how it came out. I know that there are a very limited amount of copies. If you want one, shoot me an email at thespreadingchestnuttree [at] yahoo [dot] com; I'll see what I can do. I'm sure you will have to pay a couple bucks for shipping.

Some of the tracks are silly. Some of them were drunkenly recorded. Some were recorded outside due to bitchy neighbors. It's all in good fun. I greatly enjoy TK's remixes and quite a few of the other tracks.

This is the site (which I linked above also).

So anyway, how the comp worked was: we all suggested a song and then the songs were assigned at random to everyone. On the site, we offer a word about the song that we suggested and the song we covered.
