Greetings from Oakland!

It was so cool to take the train from Salinas to Jack London Station! The whole trip took 2 hours from station to station- the same time it takes to drive! Plus, at only 19 bucks for a ticket, it was much cheaper than filling a tank of gas! It feels good to be back, though it's only for a day or so. I got all my stuff here I wanted to take back down again, including my magnets, ultra-hot sauce, posters and my sword equipment.

Today, I saw a movie that really touched me, "the motorcycle diaries". It was all in Spanish and told the story of how a young Ernesto 'Che' Guevara rode across the whole South American continent with his friend on an old '39 Norton 500 motorcycle. Along the way, they both find how indigenous peoples across the continent are impoverished and suffering, while the rich landowners turn a blind eye to all this. I think this movie leaves you with the realization of how important it is to help others in need and to choose compassion over ignorance. Just now, I got back from a small club downtown that had a West African music band playing. I feel so wasted after all that dancing, my legs, stomach and hips are all stiff and sore, but I’ll feel better in the morning when I head back down to Monterey. See you all then!

Chris
