The Sooper Sekrit Project

Okay, here's a little post detailing my super secret Nick and Greg project.

Okay, as none of you probably know, in Windows XP you have the option of setting a webpage as your desktop background instead of a regular old image. So I got bored and decided to design a Nick/Greg related desktop webpage... thing.

Normal View

The webpage pulls the three latest headlines and small descriptions from the CSI Files site, as well as the three latest posts and small descriptions from the nickngreg lj. It also includes a nifty little calendar on the desktop.

When you move the mouse over the images in the center column, they "light up". Although I haven't gotten around to it yet, I plan on making it to where the person can click on the image and change the color scheme and other images accordingly.

The problems:
I originally planned on designing this so users with resolutions of 1024x768 or above could use this Active Desktop. Unfortunately, since I use a higher resolution, I made some things a little too big so a little bit of the bottom gets cut off if you use it in that resolution. Also, for higher resolutions, like mine, I'm having trouble getting everything to center properly, so I'm using some ghetto code that will mess things up for others. I hope to have that ironed out soon.

This was also obviously designed for people who, like me, keep a relatively clean desktop to begin with. The icons you see in the screenshots above are the only icons I ever have on my desktop, so there's not much space to put them if you have a ton of icons. Of course, if you use a higher resolution like I do, there is space around the actual content that you could put your icons.

So that's what I've been working on the last day or two. As soon as I get some of the small bugs ironed out and get the other themes/schemes done, I'll put it up for download. I'm also thinking about doing a general CSI one, if anyone is interested. Hell, I don't know if anyone is interested in this, but I'll be using it for at least a couple of days, so it's not like any of the work went to waste. ;-)
