we have a swim meet on Thursday.
i hope we don't have practice on Friday.
i want some people to come over after school so we can hang out
and stuff.
i'll ask Coach Doss if we can have Friday off.
i hope he says yes.
i almost killed Aaron Caldwell today. we were talking about welfare or whatnot and whether or not it's the right thing to do.
He argued the point that some of the people who get welfare don't even try to be employed.
I argued the point that even if they don't try to be employed, a lot of them have children and it's not the children's fault that they were born into that particular family.
He said, "let them starve."
I was PISSED OFF by that point so i turned around and said "i can't fucking WAIT until you go on welfare."
Coach Gumm thought i was right. He didn't even care when i went off on Aaron.
it rocked.
but i'm still kind of mad about it. i mean, how can somebody say that? "let them starve." their freaking kids. LIKE ME, LIKE HIM.
and younger. IT'S NOT THEIR FAULT. we HAVE to help them.
it makes me so sad when people like Aaron think we shouldn't do anything about poverty and stuff.
it's just like SOMETHING has to happen.
i want to change the world, you know. and it makes me sad because i don't know what to do or how to do it.
and it's like i know i can't change the whole world but i still want to.
like all those rural hospitals in Africa. the Doctors don't even have enough water to wash their hands after performing surgery. They don't have enough gloves to wear, or masks.
or anything.
or what about the women in India and Afghanistan whose husbands pour acid over their heads when they seen another man look at his wife. what about when they stand up to their husbands who beat them and then get gasoline poured over themselves and burned.
what about the wifes all over whose husbands kill their children because their not boys. or if they are boys because they have a birth defect.
What about the places where people have to eat mush because their bodies cannot digest real food. What about the people with milaria and AIDS.
why does no one do anything?
i mean i'm sure people do stuff but why not more? i don't believe in the statement "well there's only so much you can do."
i want to do something to change it. but i don't know WHAT to do.
the world seems so big.... and i seem so small.
