I'm confused
Translations for both 1. and 2. are "What are you studying?" and "I'm studying Korean." Both sound quite POLITE to me, but what is the difference?
1.
A: 무슨 공부하십니까?
B: 한국어 공부하고 있습니다.
2.
A. 무엇을 공부합니까?
B. 한국어를 공부합니다.
What is interesting is that when they are translated into Chinese, there is a nuance, hard to be explained in English. Anyway, I will find out later (if I can). One more thing, 공부하다 and 배우다, the Chinese translations of both verbs given in the book are exactly the same, but I know they are not: the former means "to study" and the other "to learn". The text book I have here is a Chinese publication, simplified Chinese characters are really hard to read. I had one published by a Taiwanese publisher, but I gave it to my younger sister long ago. I may now consider buying another one.
Sunday is almost over. I have spent three hours watching three episodes of three different Korean dramas - Delightful Girl Choon-Hyang, Thousand Years of Love, and May Queen - today. The first two are really old ones but still good to watch (even though I'm watching them real slow). And in the episode of May Queen I watched today, I clearly heard "재미있습니다" said by Han Ji-Hye, and I was so chuffed. ^^
Yesterday, I studied a little Russian, too. Still at Book 1.
PS. I just realised that the funny guy in Delightful Girl Choon-Hyang is Park Chang-hee the cool guy in May Queen. I really didn't know they are the same person >///< What a coincidence!
